It has already been a marvellous season for Wigan! The club has experienced a number of "firsts". In their first Premiership season, Paul Jewell's side made a storming start, and when they played us at The JJB Stadium in November, they had only one week before ended an unbeaten run of 9 matches, 8 of which were wins. Then they played the teams that currently are the top five in the league, losing to each of those teams.

Three consecutive wins over Christmas almost ensured then that Wigan would be meeting many teams for the third time next season in a league where most pundits had given them no chance.

Another first for Wigan is the major Cup Final that they will experience next Sunday, which is why we are able to play this game during an FA Cup week-end for the last 16 in that competition. We should take our hats off to Wigan for knocking out our hated rivals in the semi-final of the Carling Cup with an exciting last minute goal by Jason Roberts, who is the club's top scorer this season. The scenes at the end of the game, where chairman Dave Whelan celebrated with the away fans on the pitch were joyous, not only to history-making Wigan, but also to watching Spurs fans. Good luck next week Wigan!

Cynics say that Spurs are doing Wigan a favour by playing this game ahead of schedule. It means that Roberts can serve out a three match suspension, and be available for that Cup Final. Whilst that suits us, it will also suit us that we have a chance to forge a further three points ahead of the field, before they play next week-end. The "field" includes Blackburn and Arsenal, who will meet at Ewood Park.

Another player who will not be available for the visitors will be winger Reto Ziegler - on loan from Spurs. Ziegler is a player that many Spurs followers wanted to stay and not be loaned out this season. After a bit of a horror start in that semi-final against Arsenal, Ziegler has settled down and played a part if five games so far. At least one Spurs player might get a medal next week!

The question is - will the Wigan players have more than half an eye on that match next Sunday? - or can we expect their usual combative, hard-working performance at White Hart Lane?

Spurs players had better be prepared for the latter! It seems that they have been shaken up by Edgar Davids as well as the management team this week, as the team has been warned about the loss of too many vital points. It is really quite incredible that we are still fourth, when you consider our poor form since the New Year.

Our destiny is still very much in our hands, and Spurs will have only themselves to blame if they do fail to qualify for Europe this season. I am going to predict a 2-0 victory for the Lilywhites. See you there!
