It was a chilly morning that started with driving rain that cleared by the end to give sunny patches. The pitch had had a lot of rain overnight but was still fit to play. There were no teamsheets available so as I cannot be sure of all the players I apologise for any mistakes.

Spurs lined up with Durojaiye and Sheriff at the back with Tapping at right back and Stewart on the left. Luongo came into the centre of midfield alongside Munns with Waller-Lassen on the right wing and Pritchard on the left. Lancaster started up front with Oyenuga.

Spurs defended the east end in the first half and were slow to get going with the home side picking up most of the loose balls. Waller-Lassen showed his pace on the right to get on the end of a through ball but hit his effort wide of the far post. When Spurs lost the ball on the right, Bryan ran into the channel and crossed to the un-marked Lennox coming in on the left. He drilled the ball low past Archer to put the "Robins" in front. Shortly after Reid drove through the middle and saw his attempt go for a corner.

Spurs were struggling to get their game together and Luongo - making his first appearance - was at the heart of most of the play and got on the end of a cross to draw a save from Carey. Good work down the right saw Tapping cross for Luongo to fire wide. Spurs were now beginning to string passes together as Oyenuga moved wider to give more width to the play. Pritchard just failed to get on the end of a near post ball from Oyenuga as Spurs went looking for the equaliser. The home side were sitting back, looking for the break, but defending well, repelling most of Spurs attacks fairly comfortably. Luongo had two more chances before the break, firing wide from Pritchard's cross and a hitting a weak volley from a half clearence.

City brought on Burns for Kapika at half-time and his first contribution was to concede a needless free kick on the right. Pritchard took the kick and curled it across the goal-mouth for everybody to attack. The ball reached the far post where Waller-Lassen was able to poke it in to bring the teams level. This was the spark that Spurs needed to raise their game.

City had to come out of their shell as Spurs' momentum increased, but it was Spurs who went ahead five minutes later. Good work down the right saw the ball centred to Lancaster. He could not get the space to turn on it, so laid it back to Luongo who drove it through the crowd and past the keeper.

Dombaxe came on to replace Tapping which meant Waller-Lassen dropping to right back and Munns moving to the right where Oyenuga was also operating. Lancaster remained in a central position as the point of the attack and forced a good save from Carey when played in. Pritchard's run and shot was saved for a corner which led to Munns firing wide.

It was not all one way traffic, as Wilson and Holloway both won corners and Wilson headed over from another. Inglethorpe sent on McBride to replace Pritchard on the left after he had taken a knock in a 50:50 challenge a little earlier. Carey saved again from Lancaster at the expense of a corner as Spurs looked to make the game safe. Oyenuga worked his way into the area from the right beating a couple of defenders before drawing a save from the keeper. Lancaster had a near post effort from a corner saved by Carey with the follow-up cleared off the line. Muggeridge headed over from a corner in the home side's last attack with Lancaster hitting a free kick over the bar before the final whistle.

After a shaky start Spurs got their game together and took control of the game for a comfortable win. They were helped by a City side that sat back after taking the lead, relying on a very solid defence that kept the number of chances down, but allowing Spurs to settle. Luongo did well in the middle being strong from the off, and helped the team to settle into the game and was justly rewarded with his goal. The U-16 side playing on the next pitch won their game 3-0, so I was told.

Next week the Academy entertain high-flying Watford at the Lodge in what should be a tougher test. Watford beat Birmingham 2-1 to remain third in the group, while Spurs remain seventh but are now just a point behind Birmingham.
