Some revenge would be sweet, wouldn't it?

Can it really be true? At the time of writing (and at the present rate this could change at any minute!), Spurs have signed no less than 6 (update - 7!) top class, yes very top class players in the transfer window, whilst Arsenal, allegedly with a budget of £100 million sitting around doing nothing, have done little other than re-sign Mathieu Flamini on a free from Milan, and sign a 20 year old French attacker Yaya Sanogo? Can it really be true that a lot of non-partisan fans will be betting on Spurs, who will be seeking only their 50th league win over their near rivals in their 153rd such meeting?

Can it really be true that one of the reasons for Daniel Levy stalling on the Bale move to Real Madrid is to try to prevent Arsenal from mopping up one or two Real players deemed surplus to their requirments? I'm not sure that that sort of schadenfreude between the two clubs truly exists at board level.

Such an attitude certainly exists at fan level, and you won't find any sympathy in this neck of the woods over the injuries to Podolski, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Arteta, Vermaelen and Diaby, most of whom might be regarded as key players. Arsenal did apparently put in a bid of £40 million plus £1 to try to force talks with Luis Suarez, a despicable individual highly suitable as a character to this club, whose hall of shame is quite lengthy when it comes to dodgy behaviour by their former players. There is even a special Paddy Power's new Ball of Shame campaign tailored for Arsenal fans with a free £5.01p bet! (At the time of writing)

Whether Spurs' very latest signings Vlad Chiriches and Erik Lamela start on Sunday remains to be seen, but Lamela at least was pictured training today (Friday) before his move was even announced. Virtually all of Spurs' key players were rested from Thursday night's Europa League play-off game.

On the subject of Europe, this of course is one area where the home fans will be entitled to crow, and they will. They beat Fenerbahce convincingly in their own play-off. In the end, the match was pointless, because the Turkish side lost their quest to be allowed to continue in European football, and Arsenal would have gone through, even if they had lost.

Then there is the fact that Arsenal face Marseille, Borussia Dortmund and Napoli in the Champions League, whilst we face far flung opponents in Northern Norway, Russia, and Moldova (allegedly a war zone at present) in the Europa League. The rub is there for all to plainly see, and to remind us of our one point failure last season to overhaul Arsenal, whose season ended with title-winning form after losing to Spurs 2-1 on 3rd March

Our own league form has been excellent for 14 matches in all competitions, in which we have been unbeaten. So far this season, we haven't conceded a goal, and we have won 6 of our last 8 league matches.

Another 1-0 win with a Soldado penalty would be fine by me, but what we are really, and I mean really looking for this time is some sweet revenge for two horrible and embarrassing 5-2 defeats at The Emirates in the last two fixtures away to our enemies. That'll lead to some more baiting by the home fans.

The fixtures computer has gone a bit haywire with a lot of crunch games so early in the season. This is the earliest we have played Arsenal since August 30th 1997, almost 16 years ago to the very day. That game finished 0-0. There have been two other 0-0 games since then, and those are the only times Arsenal have failed to score against us in the last 15 years. Sadly, that is another piece of information to be stuck in th Arsenal fan's psychological armoury.

Andre Villas-Boas said this week that he is a "Spurs professional" and not a "Spurs fan", but he knows what it means to us to get a result here. He also knows what it means to the team to carry on their winning form; to go 6 points above fellow Champions League contenders, and to gain a massive psychological boost before the first International break of the season.

The easy option to take, even for an optimistic Spurs fan would be to go for a score draw, perhaps a 1-1. However, I'm going to go for yet another clean sheet for Spurs, and a third successive 1-0 win. It might not be a penalty this time though!

The referee for this game will be Michael Oliver, who is one of the younger Premier league referees, but also one of the most calm and reliable officials, in my opinion.

COME ON YOU SPURS!

· What happened 15 years ago this week? Everton 0 Spurs 1 - 29th August, 1998 - Christian Gross finished his reign with an away win.
