Why shouldn't we make history on Sunday?

It's a strange feeling, but for once, I will not be travelling to Old Trafford with a feeling of trepidation, or even perhaps resignation at the prospect of going to see Spurs lose against the once supreme Manchester United. Spurs have every chance of making history this week-end by winning here for the third consecutive time.

We've rarely won here, even more rarely won two away games in a row, and never won three consecutive games at "The Theatre of Dreams"!

I'll tell you now, I do feel quite confident that we can get a result, and that I have predicted a 2-0 win!

Whilst Louis Van Gaal's side do sit in the top four at present, and statistically are on a decent run of form (identical to Spurs over their last six games), they have rarely been a convincingly winning side. Their last league win at St. James' park was only achieved very late in the game with Ashley Young's 89th minute goal. A home win against Sunderland kept the home fans frustrated until Wayne Rooney's 66th minute penalty, and another 84th minute goal by the England striker and United Captain. Those were Rooney's only league goals so far this year, and his first in 9 league games. Mind you, being played in midfield hasn't been helping his cause.

With van Persie out for another three weeks, and Falcao out of sorts (even derisively cheered off by his own fans in Tuesday's under-21 game), Rooney might be required to play up front by his manager against Spurs. United will be missing Di Maria, who was sent off by a brave but correct referee Michael Oliver in Monday night's home defeat by Arsenal in the FA Cup. They will also be missing Jonny Evans, suspended for 6 games following a spitting episode with Cisse at Newcastle. Mind you, Evans isn't exactly the "bees' knees" of defenders, and big signing Di Maria hasn't exactly been setting the world alight in the last couple of months.

Being dumped out of the FA Cup means there won't be a trophy at Old Trafford for another season, and the United faithful will be highly dissatisfied if their team fails to secure a top four place, which is all they have left to aim for. United still have to play Liverpool (A), Man City (H), Chelsea (A) and Arsenal (H) and have the toughest of run-ins of all those competing for the top four, as featured in my Premier League review this week.

Last season's away win came on New Year's Day, with Tim Sherwood in charge of Spurs, and Adebayor on the score-sheet. Adebayor gave us a first half lead, and Christian Eriksen made it 2-0 in the second half, before Welbeck got a goal back for David Moyes' United. The season before we won 3-2 to gain our first Old Trafford win in the Premier League, and our first away win there since Gary Lineker scored the solitary goal in December, 1989.

That win followed an away win in October 1989, which was a League Cup match and finished 3-0 to Spurs. Lineker also scored in that game, but his goal was sandwiched by Vinny Samways and Nayim. The only other time we won consecutive away games was in October 1972, when Martin Peters scored all four goals in a 4-1 win. We next played United away in March 1974, when Ralph Coates scored the solitary goal. United spent a year in Division Two at the end of that season.

Sunday's match referee will be Mark Clattenburg, which inevitably brings back bad memories of the "Mendes goal", or perhaps October 2010 when we lost 2-0 and Nani scored against Gomes in somewhat farcical circumstances. Mr. Clattenburg hasn't done too baadly for us in recent years, although the only time we've previously seen him this season was for our League Cup win against Brighton.

Sky TV cameras will be watching this game, and millions of viewers around the world will be eagerly awaiting what they hope will be an entertaining game. Under Van Gaal, United are more tentative going forward these days, and Spurs might face banks of red-shirted defending players.

This year, it won't be Adebayor up front for Spurs but two-time Barclays Premier League player of the month Harry Kane!

I'm not over-confident, but here we are contemplating another Spurs win, which would cast great doubt upon United's top four credentials, and which would certainly put us in the mix in that chase!

COME ON YOU SPURS!

· 10 years ago on 16th March, we lost 2-0 at The Valley. This was Charlton's last victory against Spurs, although we have played four league games and one Cup game since.
