Siggy is bound to steal the show, isn't he?
Former Spur Gylfi Sigurdsson is bound to star in this game, isn't he? Discarded by new Spurs head coach Mauricio Pochettino, but no doubt helping Daniel Levy to balance the books when signing Ben Davies and Michel Vorm from Swansea, Sigurdsson is once again the Swansea fans' favourite, with two Premier League goals and no less than 8 assists in 15 games this season. That's four more assists than any Spurs player this season. Incidentally, that Spurs player is Erik Lamela, who might be lucky to get a start tomorrow.
Siggy scored 5 goals for us last season, but never quite won the total support of his managers at Tottenham, or the fans. His ability this season to thread a telling pass, and often to set up Swansea's top scorer Wilfried Bony has had plenty to do with Swansea's fine start to the season. They have spent most weeks in the top five, and have only recently dipped down to 8th. It might be hard to believe, but over the last six league games, Spurs' form is marginally better than that of "The Swans", and a win here would take us above them in the top half of the table.
Such a win will be hard to achieve for a Spurs side struggling to even score a goal (none in three full games now), although we do have a good record against Swansea since their promotion to the Premier League in 2011. We have yet to lose a Premier League game in 6 meetings so far. Last season we managed a league double, with Adebayor scoring twice in January's 3-1 win at The Liberty Stadium. Adebayor won't be involved, of course, and it seems that Harry Kane has been saved for this game.
Ben Davies will be looking forward to this game, after signing in the summer for Spurs from Swansea. He has a good chance of playing too, having sat out Thursday night's game on the bench, with Danny Rose making his first appearance after injury.
This is an intriguing game, wwith Swansea's home form as good as Spurs' away form. They've only lost at home to Southampton (1-0), and beaten Everton (convincingly) and Arsenal at home. Spurs have won as many away games as they have at home, but it should be remembered all three have been as a result of late, late winning goals. That does at least prove that Mauricio Pochettino's tough fitness regime has been paying off, but whichever players represent us, they have rarely struck decent or entertaining form.
Both Eric Dier and Kyle Naughton have niggling foot injuries which might mean that Kyle Walker, who only returned to the first team in Turkey on Thursday night, may be required to start. Swansea's first choice goalkeeper - Fabianksi - is suspended following his sending-off in the defeat at Upton Park last week, so Tremmell will deputise.
Spurs' Tom Carroll, on loan at Swansea, has to sit this one out, although he is not a regular starter anyway. Another player with Spurs connections is Wayne Routledge, now 29, and thoroughly enjoying life at Swansea, where he is in his fourth season. Wayne has scored three goals this season from 13 league starts.
I have to be honest. I am not enjoying watching Spurs at the moment. I can't remember the last time I truly looked forward to watching them play. Build-up play is usually tentative, backwards, and sideways. Many Spurs fans are describing this team as the worst in their memory, not just since the bad days of Juande Ramos 6 years ago. At least he won us a trophy.
Needless to say, I am not at all confident about this game, and I have actually predicted Swansea to win 2-1. Of course, I hope to be wrong, but if I were a betting man, I'd have to go for Sigurddson to score.
Tomorrow's match referee is Robert Madley, who is quite new to the Premier League, and has not previously officiated for a Spurs game.
· On December 11th 10 years ago, Spurs beat Man City 1-0 away. Those were the days!
