The pressure is on!

The pressure is on both teams for tomorrow's 4pm kick-off (not on TV) at Villa Park. Mauricio Pochettino has surely put pressure upon himself, and therefore his team, by seemingly putting all his selection eggs in one basket in Germany on Thursday. It's the Premier League title (or at least top four) or bust for Spurs now, who face an impossible task to try and redeem a three goal deficit against one of Europe's current top form sides next Thursday.

After 29 games last season, Leicester were bottom of the table with just 19 points. They avoided the drop by 6 clear points and finished 14th. Remi Garde ought to try and inspire his players with this information, and insist that his team are not doomed. Mind you, Villa only avoided the drop by one place and three points last year! Leicester were seven points behind the fourth from bottom team at this stage. Villa are nine points adrift. Leicester won 7, drew 1 and lost only 1 of their last nine games last year. Such is the task before "The Villans".

Garde had just been appointed when we played Aston Villa at White Hart Lane on 2nd November, after Tim Sherwood had been sacked. (Spurs 3 Villa 1). Spurs scored an early goal, and also goals almost on the stroke of half-time and full-time to secure a 3-1 victory, but Villa were not overwhelmed in this game.

You can find live soccer scores and odds here if you are interested in this week's games.

Villa have been overwhelmed several times this season. They lost 4-0 at Goodison Park; 4-0 at home to Man City in the FA Cup; 6-0 at home to Liverpool, and 4-0 away to Man City last week. They have won two league games since Garde's appointment, and those were against Palace (1-0) and Norwich (2-0).

The sorry tale of the demise of this once great club has been witnessed by all who follow football over not just this year, but five years in which they have been at risk of the drop and losing their cherished status of an ever-present Premier League club. If they go, as seems inevitable, that will leave only one other ever-present team below Spurs in the all-time points ratings (Everton). We also have more Premier League points than Villa, over whom we have enjoyed dominance since March 2009. In 15 games played in that time, Spurs have won 11, drawn 3 and lost just 1 match.

We did suffer the embarrassment of former Spurs man Sherwood bringing his team to The Lane last April and snatching a 1-0 win thanks to Benteke's 35th minute goal. Benteke has gone of course, and his scoring ability has been much missed by Villa, although he hasn't been as impactive for Liverpool as they no doubt hoped when they signed him last summer. (Spurs 0 Villa 1 - 11.04.15)

We last visited Villa Park in November 2014, and won 2-1, but Andreas Weimann (now with Derby) put the home side into the lead, but Spurs took the spoils with late goals by Chadli and Harry Kane - who scored his first Premier League goal of the season. Kane has gone on to score 38 league goals to date, but only three of those have been from open play so far this year. The last one was a tremendous curler scored against Arsenal last week, of course! (Villa 1 Spurs 2, 02.11.14).

Villa have no new injury problems, and are expected to name the same squad from last week's 4-0 defeat at Manchester City, with Jack Grealish, Libor Kozak (both ankle), Carlos Sanchez (hamstring), Jordan Amavi (knee) and Adama Traore (foot) all out.

Mauricio Pochettino will hopefully be able to play Dele Alli, Eric Dier and Danny Rose amongst other first choice returnees. Alli was suspended on Thursday night, but has been carrying a couple of knocks, whilst Danny Rose will be assessed in the run-up to the game. Dier didn't travel to Germany.

Villa's support has naturally been on the wane, and has not been helped by protests against the board, and in particular club owner Randy Lerner. An early Spurs goal or two would prevent any positivity at Villa Park tomorrow! I have predicted a 2-0 win for Spurs, who can hopefully put a little pressure on Leicester who play Newcastle on Monday night - new manager Benitez and all!

Spurs have seen quite a lot of referee Anthony Taylor in recent seasons. Some would say too much, but he hasn't been too bad in the eyes of those responding to our surveys this season. Mr. Taylor was in charge of our home game against West Ham (won 4-1) and away wins against Watford and Leicester (FA Cup). He was in charge of Basel's 0-0 home draw against Sevilla on Thursday night, and also last week's 3-2 win by West Ham at Everton. He showed a red card in each of those games.

· Premier League results 10 years ago - we won 2-0 at Birmingham. Aaron Lennon scored his first senior goal for Spurs.
