Christian Eriksen Reveals Why Players Now Want To Join Tottenham

Christian Eriksen Reveals Why Players Now Want To Join Tottenham

There is no doubting the fact that under Mauricio Pochettino, Tottenham have enjoyed some stability. The Argentine manager has built a solid team in North London. The team is not yet perfect but as the 3-1 thrashing of both Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund in the Champions league this season has shown, Tottenham are beginning to look like a team that is not only capable of winning the Premier League but also doing well in the UEFA Champions League.

Bookmakers such as 888sport.com and the likes have Tottenham as their second favourites to win the Premier League this season which is testament to how much of a good work Pochettino has done with the team since taking charge.

According to midfielder Christian Eriksen, the stability is responsible for Tottenham being appealing to other players. In recent weeks Spurs have been linked with the signing of some players that in time past they would not have been linked with. Julian Draxler, Leon Goretzka, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and a host of other big name players have been linked of late.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Eriksen said; “He has given stability not only to me but to the whole club,”. “That’s the main thing for a player. You feel comfortable, you feel aware of everything around you and you don’t think about anything other than football when you’re on the pitch.

“All the players have long-term contracts. They feel safe being here. It’s why you commit your future to a place like this. On Pochettino, Eriksen added: “He gives his players a lot of confidence and he trusts to let them play.

“I have played a lot of games under the manager now. He knows what I’m good for and what I’m not good for but he trusts me completely. You feel that trust and it makes you want to do everything for him.”

It is difficult to disagree with Eriksen. Even Arsenal fans are jealous of what Pochettino has done with Tottenham so far. However, all of that could be undone if they don't start winning trophies soon. This much was hinted at by Danny Rose in the summer. Footballers want to make money and win titles. Some of them are comfortable with winning titles and not getting as much pay as other players, but in Tottenham's case, they are neither winning titles nor able to pay big wages to their players.

For modern day footballers, it is not just enough to compete for titles, they actually want to win them. This is something Tottenham have to fix as soon as possible if they do not want to lose their players to the big guns. It will be very tempting for someone like Christian Eriksen, Harry Kane and Danny Rose should a bigger club, say Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester City or Manchester United make them big money contract offers, as they will know they will not only stand a chance of winning titles but also making more money than they are already making at Tottenham.
