More Saturday night football!

The tragic night of Saturday 27th October, 2018 when Leicester's popular Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha along with two members of his staff - Nusara Suknamai and Kaveporn Punpare - and pilots Eric Swaffer and Izabela Roza Lechowicz lost their lives will be etched on the memories of all those connected with the club for ever. The sorrow was felt around the country. Mr Srivaddhanaprabha's son - Khun Aiyawatt 'Top' Srivaddhanaprabha - who was his father's vice-chairman, continues the King Power project which gave Leicester its famous 2015-16 Premier League title.

Emotions have naturally been high throughout the club, but the team has not lost a game since that tragic day, although they have drawn most, including the delayed Carabao Cup game when they beat Southampton in a penalty shoot-out. Leicester will host Man City twice this month. Firstly in the Carabao Cup quarter-final, then on Boxing day in the league.

The Daily Telegraph today refers to the Premier League now being split into no less than four "mini-leagues". Man City and Liverpool are said to be fighting it out in "Tier One" - the title race, whilst Spurs, Chelsea and Arsenal are battling for the other two Champions League places in "Tier Two". Former Champions Leicester are described as being in the third tier. Mind you, as the home fans will no doubt remind us, we cannot call ourselves former Premier League Champions.

Our away game last season against Leicester was also a 7.45pm game. That was a midweek fixture on Matchday 14 of the Premier League. All three goalscorers were familiar names in the goal charts. Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez put Leicester two up in the first half, and Harry Kane scored his 10th league goal of last season in that game after 79 minutes. Mahrez has of course gone to Man City for £60 million. Jamie Vardy missed Leicester's midweek reunion with Claudio Ranieri at Fulham with a groin strain, but may return tomorrow. Harry Kane has scored 9 league goals so far this season and is determined to increase his account considerably over the busy holiday period to come.

This our third late Saturday night game of the year. In April we lost 3-1 at Wembley to Manchester City. The next massive inconvenience to the travelling fans was at Molineux on 3rd November. Such is the poor nature of our national railways that you cannot get a train back to London from Leicester after this game. Now Spurs have been given a Friday night FA Cup trip to either Tranmere or Southport next month. We are not the first and will not be the last to suffer for the benefit of TV viewers around the world.

Last season's 5-4 home win over Leicester was not the only high scoring game we have had against "The Foxes" in recent years. Earlier this year I came across this report of a 4-4 home draw in which I referred to a number of characters as clowns! That game was played in February 2004.

More recently, of course, we have had the amazing 6-1 away win just over 18 months ago in which Harry Kane scored 4 goals. Harry got another hat-trick in a 4-3 home win in March 2015.

Our very first match against Leicester (then called Leicester Fosse) was an FA Cup first round tie in January 1914. This was a 5-5 draw. The scores had been level at 3-3 at half-time. 9,454 watched this game, and it is of note that Leicester rejected an offer by Spurs to play this game in London! Spurs won the replay 2-0 with goals from Fanny Walden and Bert Bliss, both of whom had scored at Filbert Street.

Our first league match against Leicester did not come until after The Great War, and was played on 1st September, 1919 in Division Two. We won 4-0. Cantrell (2) and Bliss were again on the scoresheet with the other goal scored from the penalty spot by Tommy Clay. All three of these players were in Spurs' FA Cup winning side of April, 1921.

Spurs' team news is not great. As anticipated after his withdrawal against Southampton, Kieran Trippier is not available due to his groin injury. In addition Juan Foyth is also unavailable as he has sustained a hamstring injury. Both players are being assessed and have been added to the list which also includes Mousa Dembele, Erik Lamela, Davinson Sanchez and Victor Wanyama. Jan Vertonghen will return after his one match suspension. No doubt Aurier will take Trippier's place and perhaps Ben Davies will rotate for Danny Rose. I expect Dele to start tomorrow. Dele scored his first official Tottenham goal here at Leicester in August 2015.

Jamie Vardy is to be assessed for fitness along with Harry Maguire and Jonny Evans. Maguire has been out for five weeks. Evans (who played last Saturday) has made 6 Premier league starts for "The Foxes" after signing from West Brom in the summer. Of their summer signings, James Maddison (£22 million from Norwich) has had most impact with 5 goals in 14 Premier League appearances. Turkish defender Caglar Soyuncu (22) was signed from Freiburg and has had a couple of 90 minute games recently, and is also said to be a promising acquisition.

Such is the pressure upon Spurs in "Tier 2" of the Premier League, that nothing less than a win will ensure we regain third place, with Arsenal at home to Huddersfield and likely to win earlier in the day. Such is the desire and ability of the Leicester team coupled with the enthusiasm of their fans, that this will be a tricky game indeed. Being the eternal optimist, I have gone for a 2-1 Spurs win, but as we all know, anything could happen. We might even get our first draw in 19 League games, a record we last achieved in 1930!

Did you know?England centre-back Harry Maguire has a brother called Laurence (aged 21), who plays for Chesterfield. Laurence is also a defender, but is plying his trade this season in the National League. Both were actually born in Sheffield, but schooled in Chesterfield - where I have lived for nearly 11 years now. Laurence was given permission to fly to Russia to see his brother play in the World Cup quarter-final against Sweden by Chesterfield manager Martin Allen. Chesterfield also have a club record regarding drawn games. They've drawn 9 league games on the trot, but haven't won in the Nationnal League since their first three games in August!

Tomorrow's match referee will be Craig Pawson, who has a good record so far this season for Spurs! We won both the games he refereed - both away - against Manchester United and Huddersfield. Mr Pawson was also in charge of our 5-4 Wembley win, and the only other Leicester games he has officiated were also defeats - at home to Chelsea in the FA Cup 6th round and away to Bournemouth in September. May Mr. Pawson's 2018 record continue!

· "It was Twenty Years ago today!" - On 5th December 1998, Spurs beat Liverpool, thanks to one of those Jamie Carragher own goals!
