It was a cool overcast afternoon for Spurs' second group game where leaders Barcelona were the visitors to Hotspur Way. Spurs used the first team training pitch for this match. Having drawn away in their first match in Milan 1-1, Spurs were well set to face Barcelona who beat PSV Eindhoven 4-1 in their first match. The last time Spurs played Barcelona at this level was in the NextGen Series when Barcelona won 2-0 at White Hart Lane in 2012 in front of a crowd of nearly nine thousand. Spurs did later beat them 4-1 away at the Ministadi.

Spurs lined up with Austin in goal behind Eyoma and Lyons-Foster with Hinds at right back and Brown on the left. Bowden anchored the midfield with Oakley-Boothe and Maghoma ahead of him . They were flanked by Markanday on the right and Bennett on the left in support of Richards up front in place of the suspended Parrott.

Spurs defended the East end in the first half which saw them take the game to the visitors. Bennett got down the left to put in low crosses in the opening minutes before Maghoma fired over for a corner. Markanday was also busy on the right and he played in Bennett for a chance that was saved.

Catalan was booked early for a foul on Oakley-Boothe. Markanday laid the ball off to Bowden but his effort was blocked. Bennett got away down the left and he crossed for Richards who was unmarked in the area but the striker hit his shot wide of the far post. Spurs were punished for that miss when Castilla headed in a free kick by Serrano.

Spurs continued to press and Maghoma hit a free kick into the wall following up with a strike that was wide. Urena dropped a corner from Maghoma but Lyons-Foster hit the loose ball wide. Maghoma hit another effort over before Spurs drew level. Bowden played the ball into Richards who hit it on the turn into the far side of the goal. This allowed Spurs to go in level having the better of the half.

Spurs made a change for the start of the second half as Shashoua replaceed Oakley-Boothe who had a knock in the first half.

Barcelona stepped up a gear in this half and Bowden picked up a booking for a foul on Lima. Austin saved a weak back header from Ortega. Gutierrez fired wide from a corner before Catalan was replaced as he looked close to getting a second yellow. Austin saved from De La Fuente while turning an effort by Ortega onto a post.

Spurs made their second change replacing Bowden with White. Gutierrez was booked for a foul on Maghoma before Ortega played in Moreno for a chance that Austin saved. Both sides began to make wholesale changes with Patterson coming on for Markanday as Barca made a double change. Lyons-Foster saw his header saved from a cross by Hinds before Ortega played in Fati to draw a save from Austin. As the game went into added time Spurs made a double change with Roles replacing Maghoma and Binks coming on for Brown. The last chance fell to the visitors when Gutierrez fired wide from a corner.

This game could have gone either way as Spurs had the better of the first half and Barcelona the second so both sides will probably be happy with the point. In the other game in the group PSV beat Inter 2-1 to move into second place a point behind Barcelona and one ahead of Spurs. Spurs will play PSV next first away and then at home so have a good chance to move ahead of them.
