NORMAN GILLER'S SPURS ODYSSEY BLOG No 492

The lynch mob are on the march across the internet and many of them on the playing fields of Tottenham as Angelos Postecoglou surveys the fall out of yesterday's demoralising defeat by Ipswich.
Coming hard on the thumping in Turkey, it is difficult to make out a case for Ange's defence as the vultures circle. Lynch mob. Vultures. Mixing my metaphors is illustrative of how mixed up Spurs are at the moment.
They keep blowing hot and cold to an extent that you don't know which Spurs side is going to show up. Let's not forget it was only last week we were raving over the vanquishing of Aston Villa.
I would argue that Postecoglou should be allowed to finish the 'Ange Ball' job that he started, but will Daniel Levy and his cohorts have the patience to continue to give the strong-minded Aussie his head? Or will they deliver it on a platter?
My personal vote would be to stick with Ange in the hope he can turn his talented yet brittle team into consistent winners. But at the moment they are only consistent in being inconsistent.
Our Spurs guru Paul H. Smith gives his experienced verdict HERE after a game that was as frustrating to watch as if we were Democrats witnessing the US Presidential election.
While Ange was making his concession speech he had the grace to admit that Ipswich deserved their first victory of the season, particularly satisfying for ex-Spur Kieran McKenna in his role as promising young manager of the Tractor Boys.
A morose, shell-shocked Ange said that he was to blame for Tottenham's shoddy performance, but several players were too often spectators as they made Ipswich look like championship challengers rather than relegation candidates.
What Spurs lack is aggressive and inspiring on-pitch leadership of the kind continually demonstrated by Steve Perryman, skipper of back-to-back FA Cup winning Tottenham teams and the man who played in more games for Spurs than anybody else in history.
Just in case you haven't heard, 'Skip' and I have combined on the definitive biography of 'Sir Bill' Nicholson, the greatest of all Spurs servants. You can order a signed copy at https://steveperryman.com/product/sir-bill-the-book/.
We will be discussing the book and the great Bill Nicholson later this week on Steve's always engrossing discussion panel (that you can find by simply typing Steve Perryman Podcast into your search engine).
I will be giving full background details of the book here at my Spurs Odyssey base next Monday while Tottenham's main players are away on the international break.
At least I won't have to be talking about a defeat. Next up it's Man City at the Etihad. Easy peasy!

Week 12 of our eleventh season of the Spurs Odyssey Quiz League, and the question is:
Which current Football League manager won 18 England caps, joined Spurs as a player from West Ham and with which London club did he start his career?
Please email your answer to me at soqleague@gmail.com and make the subject heading Quiz Week 12. Deadline: midnight this Friday. I will do my best to respond to all who take part.
The rules are the same as in the previous ten seasons. I ask a two-pronged question with three points at stake - two for identifying the player and one for the supplementary question. In the closing weeks of the competition I break the logjam of all-knowing Spurs-history experts with a real stinker of a tie-breaking poser that is based on opinion rather than fact.
This year's main prize will be a framed certificate announcing the winner as SOQL champion 2025, plus three signed books to be revealed at a later date.
Last week's question: Which defender has won 25 international caps, started his career with Juventus in 2018 and with which club was he playing when he joined Spurs?
Answer:Radu Dragusin, Genoa.
See you back here on Monday. COYS!
