Spurs Odyssey Reviews the Premiership Season
for 2009-2010 - Match 9

The Spurs Odyssey man of the match at Portsmouth was Heurelho Gomes.
To the best of my knowledge (thanks to Declan Mulcahy for his research), the last time that Spurs were only three points behind the league leaders after 9 games was in October, 1984:-

Spurs finished third that season, behind the eventual Champions - Everton, and Liverpool.
Two years later in 1986, Spurs were three points behind the leaders after 10 games. Spurs also finished third in that season, which was the year that Clive Allen scored his 33 league goals and 49 in all. Incidentally, after 10 games that season, Spurs had scored 11 goals, 10 of which had been scored by Allen. Graham Roberts had scored the only other goal.
4 years ago, under Martin Jol, Spurs were actually second in the league, but 9 points behind Chelsea, after the first 9 games. This was the seaason that ended in "lasagne-gate" and fifth place.
