May 2004

There were only three matches for Spurs in the month of May 2005, and sadly, only one of those was worthy of mention. That of course was the magnificent 5-1 win over a poor Aston Villa side, that technically remained UEFA Cup contenders, even after that defeat.

Spurs hopes were lifted by that result, only to be quickly deflated by an insipid away performance at The Riverside, where we failed to score, and failed to really compete with the sort of vigour expected of a Premiership side, challenging for Europe.

The following week, we again failed to score against Blackburn, since when Martin Jol has admitted he had told the players to "be nice", perhaps explaining the lack of competitive edge. That strategy may yet bear fruit, as Spurs are in the Fair Play League Draw taking place on 5th June, when they COULD win an entry to the UEFA Cup, after all.

Simon Davies is pictured this month, for that scintillating dislay against Villa. Ironically, after giving us his best game for the whole season, it looks like he will be going to Everton. I don't think his replacement is on Spurs' books at present, and we do need a winger with genuine pace to fill the number 7 shirt.Full details of Davies Spurs career can be found here.
