What could have been a good month, and a good start to the season was ruined by the fiasco of a performance at home to Fulham. This type of embarrassing defeat has happened too often under Glenn to be swept aside. If you look at my report on the Blackburn game at the end of last season, you can see some of the disturbing facts and figures behind the dark side of Glenn's record as manager of Spurs.

Whilst we must not dismiss the season ahead on the basis of yesterday's result, the fact is that we have only scored two goals in 4 games, and those came in the one game against Leeds. It is also a fact that thanks to Glenn's commitment towards playing three at the back, we seem incapable these days of playing to any other system. Can anyone name me one team that is succeeding in the Premiership playing this style so dogmatically?

Whether or not this two week break is a good thing will be seen in our next (very difficult) game at Chelsea on September 13th. Every future game looks difficult if we play like we did against Fulham, and if Hoddle does not turn things round against Southampton and Man City, then the pressure could not be greater on him, could it?

...and finally - you can compare this month's figures with the last month of last season, and last year (August 2002).
