Adebayor edges Spurs Odyssey Player of the Month vote
Surprise, surprise! The scapegoat of many Spurs fans throughout this season, striker Emmanuel Adebayor has won his first Spurs Odyssey Player of the Month award since his first games for us back in September, 2011!
How did that happen? Well, despite all the attention given to star player Gareth Bale, who did score another two magnificent game-winning goals this month, Adebayor has come good towards the end of this season. The Togolese striker got his first man of the match award in April, with a thoroughly good performance against Everton, and capped that with his best game of the season in this month's 2-2 draw at Chelsea, where he scored easily his best goal in a Tottenham shirt.
Adebayor, also scored well in our last two games, and it is only a source of major frustration for most observers that he has only found his best form right at the end of what has been a very poor season for him. Adebayor has scored only 8 goals all season, and four of these have come in the last two months.
Already, the newspaper transfer gossip is suggesting that Adebayor may be one to leave Spurs in the summer, but at his best, and we have seen that in May, Adebayor remains one of the post powerful and athletic of forwards, with the ability to impose himself on the opposition to the benefit of his team and his team-mates. It would be ironic if he does go, because he will have started and ended his Spurs career on a high.
Adebayor just edged out Gareth Bale and Hugo Lloris this month. Adebayor scored 7.075, against Bale and Lloris's 7 out of 10. That Chelsea performance, which was deemed the best individual perfomance of the month made the difference.
Jan Vertonghen also scored very highly, and it is no co-incidence that Bale, Lloris and Vertonghen have scored highly in the player grades for the season, which can be viewed below. I shall comment more upon those results in the forthcoming season review.
Form-wise, the team did better in May, than it had in April, winning three of our four games, but sadly, over the last two months, we drew too many games, and Arsenal finished one point better than us. The record Premier League total of 72 points is scant consolation for missing out on Champions League football yet again.
Still to come this month on Spurs Odyssey will be the review of the season, with plenty of reference to Gareth Bale and his goals! Picking a goal of the season will be hard, won't it!
