How to Come Out on Top When You Next Gamble

How to Come Out on Top When You Next Gamble

Do you place bets on sports games for fun? It might have been a hobby for you, but you may have noticed others who make some real money on their bets. And not just the occasional lucky streak, but the sort of money that can add up to feel like a consistent income.

Of course, placing bets is always a gamble, but there are certain strategies you can follow to maximise the chance that you make money every time you. Here's how.

Create a Separate Bank Account

If you're going to be serious about this, it's a good idea to have a dedicated bank account for your sport bets. Not only does this make it easier to track your wins and losses, it's also one of the best ways to stop you from spending money you can't afford to lose.

Choose a Reputable Bookmaker and Place Bets with More than One

These days, so much of betting is done online, and the internet is rife with scammers. If you're placing your bets online, be sure that it's a well-known entity. Sites like Ladbrokes, bet365 and redbet are all well-established sites that you can count on. And if you're placing bets in person you'll certainly want to make sure your bookie is reputable if you want to stay on the up. It's also a great strategy to place with more than bookie because this lets you compare what's on offer and gives you the information to place the smartest bets.

Don't Play Favourites

We've all got out favourite team, but save it for choosing your football shirt not your bets. The smart bet is always going to be the one that is chosen using calculated logic and a careful look at probabilities. If you like to bet as a one off for fun, it's fine to let your gut guide you, so long as you're betting money you can afford to lose. If you're really betting to win, then emotions have no place in the equation.

Don't Drink and Bet

Speaking of emotions, it might seem like game day is the perfect time to have that extra pint, but not if you'll be placing bets. You'll need a clear head.

It's Not a Race

You win some, you lose some, and success in gambling is from winning more than you lose. If you start to get emotional, you might find yourself in a dangerous cycle of chasing either good bets or bad bets. The seasoned gambler knows there's no such thing as a winning streak that will make the next bet a win. And the same is true in the reverse. If you keep losing, you're not guaranteed to win one. That's just not how probability works.

Make a Schedule

By planning ahead, you can be sure to choose the games that you feel most confidently about, and by being aware all the way up to the start of the game you can take advantage of fluctuating odds and expectations.

Understand the Ins and Outs

To succeed, you need to have an intimate understanding of how all aspects of gambling works. You should always know how much the vig is (that's the amount the bookie takes). Money lines, point spreads and parlays? You need to know them! The money line is gambling purely on who wins and is a way of showing what the likely odds of each team winning and losing. Even if there is a money line offered, there can still be a point spread. Betting with a point spread is not betting on who wins so much as the actual accuracy of the outcome. You have to be within or over the points in order to have success. A parlay or combo is a bet that links more than one outcome together. These don't even have to be the same sport, as Silverlinings Playbook illustrated with the parlay that was an American football game and a dance competition.

Betting on Football

To have success specifically in football remember that it's a good idea to think of it not as choosing the team that wins, but the team less likely to lose. Look for bets you can place that the team doesn't have to win at all (a win or a draw means you have success). Or you can try and go straight for predicting the draw. This tends to be a weak spot in bookie's predictions, and can lead to big pay-outs. Always choose teams that score. Some top teams are so strong in large part because of defines more than being able to put points on the board. These don't make the best teams for gambling.

Another great strategy for success in betting on football is playing the home turf advantage. Look for teams that gain a lot of advantage from it, as well as those teams that suffer from playing a different field. There are those fields that are known to be particularly rough for all visitors. If you find the right combination of a strong team that has a poor history on a specific field, you can find a bet that will have a great shot delivering.
