Some positive signs

Despite the fact that we ended the month of September in 6th place (behind both Arsenal and West Ham), it is still early days in the Premier League and with the hope of maximum points from our next two league games against Brighton and Watford, perhaps we can look forward to brighter times.

We lost leads in three games, all away, to Arsenal, Olympiacos and Leicester. At Leicester we felt victimised by a very marginal VAR decision which denied Serge Aurier a goal after Son had been a matter of millimetres the wrong side of the line which illustrated the offside decision. Leicester had defended the threat of Son, and from their clearance, Harry Kane teed up Aurier.

Aurier has already become a villain after his sending off against Southampton for two yellow cards in quick succession. That was the first red card at the new stadium. In that game, Spurs showed terrific team spririt, firstly to take the lead with 10 men, and secondly to staunchly defend their lead for the whole of the second half.

That Southampton result, and the stylish play seen in the first half against Palace when we scored all four of our goals suggest that there is hope for another successful season, at least in terms of the Premier League. Participation in the Champions League is all these days, and we will know our prospects of qualfication from Group B better after tonight's exciting visit of Bayern Munich.

The least said about the penalty shoot-out Carabao Cup exit at Colchester the better. I live in hope of FA Cup success in 2020.

Tanguy Ndombele is settling in nicely, and already has two goals to his name, whilst we have yet to catch sight of Ryan Sessegnon. Giovani Lo Celso last appeared in the Arsenal game in the third of three Spurs cameos, when he showed some skilful touches. Sadly Lo Celso sustained injury on International duty and we will be lucky to see him before the end of October.

Currently there are contract talks with Jan Vertonghen reported, which I hope come to fruition. I also hope to see Toby Alderweireld extend his stay. Christian Eriksen has yet to settle down after the summer transfer speculation which did not end until the European window closed on September 2nd.

Harry Kane is in good form with 6 club goals to his name already. Another Harry - Winks - is the Spurs Odyssy player of the month. Winks has been rated well in most games in which he has played, and is recognised for his non-stop energy, effort and passing ability at the back of the midfield. An England call beckons again for another one of our Harrys!
