Unsurprisingly, in a month of only 3 matches, two of which we actually managed to win, the "Spursometer" records the best score since January, and in fact has only been bettered by that month's performance and the one in October.
October was part of Pleat's initial run of 6 games undefeated, which included 5 clean sheets. January saw a good Cup win against Ian Dowie's emerging Palace side, and a genuinely dazzling win against Birmingham, which featured one of Dalmat's finest performances.
A review of the season will follow later in the week, but in May, Spurs also managed two more clean sheets, in games where Ledley King and Anthony Gardner played side by side, which perhaps they should have done more over the whole season.
There can be no comparison with last May's figure, which was a disgusting 19.5%, thanks to 2 four-goal losses.
The defeat at Villa was a sterile show after the excitement of April's 2-2 draw against Arsenal, but none other than Keith Burkinshaw, speaking when he was inducted to the Spurs Hall of Fame, felt that the Blackburn win was one of Spurs' best games of the season. It doesn't say too much for the year as a whole, does it, or perhaps it does!
We scored just 3 goals, and with 2 of those going to Jermain Defoe, (on the stand-by list for Portugal), he has to be my Player of the Month for May, 2003.
