There were mixed messages being sent out by Spurs during this month, the start of which saw the surprising departure of Jacques Santini for "personal reasons". Martin Jol saw the run of defeats in Premiership matches continue until they reached 6, but at least by beating Middlesbrough, we prevented equalling our worst ever run in early 1994.

Spurs scored more goals, but no more points. Their previous strength in defence disappeared. Was that anything to do with Nourredine Naybet's strict observance of Ramadan? Certainly, as I write, Spurs have now managed two consecutive clean sheets in the league, and are looking more like the team that started the season as far as their defensive ability is concerned.

Despite a marginal improvement in form this month, the defence deteriorated on a month by month basis, compared to October. This figure was not assisted by that amazing London Derby with Arsenal, which despite 9 goals did not entertain the home fans.
