Spurs lost this game 1-0. They had opportunities but found Charlton
goalkeeper Kiely in outstanding form.
In the ninth minute Kiely made two fine saves. First he saved from Revrov
with his feet which gave Spurs a corner. From the corner Iversen took a
shot but Kiely again saved his shot at the near post. Then Sullivan made a
good save from Robinson. Johansson was bearing down on the Spurs goal
before Carr made a good tackle to deprive him. Tarricco hit the Charlton
crossbar with a shot. Robinson also hit the bar for Charlton.
Charlton scored the only goal after 39 minutes. Stuart sent forward a
through ball which allowed Johansson to beat the Spurs offside trap. He
found himself one-on-one with Sullivan and put the ball between the
goalkeeper's legs to score.
Overall Spurs had the better of the second half. Johansson had another
opportunity early on when Campbell missed the ball but his control let him
down. Just before the sixtieth minute Kiely made the best save of the game
from a Ferdinand half-volley. Iversen had a free header after sixty four
minutes but headed wide. With five minutes to go Sullivan made another good
save from Robinson.

On this occasion Charlton probably had the better of the game but Spurs
managed to win 4-1 scoring three goals in the last twelve minutes. It was a
rainy night which made conditions difficult.
Charlton took the lead after five minutes through Mark Kinsella. Mortimer
crossed to Stuart in the box. He set up Kinsella who scored with a low hard
shot into the bottom right hand corner of the net. Then Hunt set up Pringle
but his shot was deflected.
Rufus appeared to foul Armstrong in the penalty area but the referee denied
the claim. Campbell had a header from a Sherwood cross but could not direct
it on target.
Charlton had an opportunity early in the second half when a Campbell error
left Pringle free in the box. However Campbell then made a fine tackle to
retrieve the situation. Armstrong had a chance but Petterson the Charlton
goalkeeper saved.
Iverson equalised after fifty nine minutes. Sherwood and Iversen exchanged
passes setting up Iversen who scored with a half-volley to the bottom left
hand corner of the net. Spurs took the lead after seventy nine minutes from
a diving Campbell header following an Anderton corner.
Walker made an instinctive save with his legs to prevent Hunt equalising
and then made another fine save from Stuart. Nielsen and Ginola set up
Dominguez for the third goal in the eighty ninth minute. Then Dominguez set
up Ginola who scored the fourth a minute later. This defeat left Charlton
in the relegation zone.
