Here is the team I would like to play Chelsea in a 4-4-2 formation. I choose the different formation, as everyone seems to have our 3-5-2 mapped out, and finds space too easily to exploit between the wing-back, and the relevant centre back. Usually the pressure has been on the left centre-back, as Ziege is so often too committed to attack, that in the same way as Ginola, he often does not offer any help in defence:-
Keller; Taricco, King, Gardner, Thatcher; Davies, Anderton, Poyet, Ziege; Rebrov, Ferdinand.
Subs:- Sullivan; Perry, Sherwood, Etherington, Sheringham
Sullivan, Richards Sherwood and Sheringham should not necessarily be viewed as scapegoats, but would benefit from a rest anyway. Kasey Keller deserves another go in goal, and Neil Sullivan has demonstrated the "Scottish goalkeeper" syndrome too much recently. Ziege can have his attacking game, and whilst I am not a Thatcher fan, we all no he is the type of defender to rattle forwards, and will upset the culture of Chelsea. Gardner and King have the pace and ability to resist Hasselbaink and Gudjohnssen. Yes - they lack experience, but it is all or nothing for Spurs now, as we try and treat every remaining league game as a cup final in an effort to gain a most unlikely league UEFA place.
Will Glenn alter his team so radically? Some how, I don't think so, and fear the worse at Stamford Bridge - yet again.
