It's a dilemma, isn't it? Three years ago, Arsenal fans at Highbury were singing "Come on you Spurs" - Yes it is true - because Spurs were beating Man Utd at Old Trafford on the last day of the season. If Man Utd had not come back and beaten us, then Arsenal would have won the league on 16th May, 1999.
Now we play Liverpool in our last home game of the season. One that Liverpool must win to keep the pressure on Arsenal, who, with a four point lead are firm favourites for the title. If we beat Liverpool, then they are almost certainly out of the equation, as Arsenal play Bolton on Monday night. So, should Spurs - will Spurs - try and beat the Scousers and help their sworn enemies to the Title?
What do Spurs have to play for? Well, it is the last home game, and we usually get a bit of a show. There is still the limited prestige of finishing above West Ham in seventh place to go for. One hopes that the team will play with a bit of vigour, and bearing in mind there is a need to sell those expensive new season tickets to the faithful, maybe we will get a goal or two. Teddy Sheringham went on record before our game at Highbury to say he would do all in his power to ensure the title went to Old Trafford, so we must assume that he will have the team fired up to assist him in this objective.
However, Spurs are very thin on the ground, due to their perennial injury list, and Glenn Hoddle does not have much to choose from. Sergei Rebrov was very poor last week, and I would not be surprised if Gary Doherty got the nod ahead of him on Saturday - assuming that Iversen is not fit. Pace will be required in defence to counter whoever Liverpool play up front - most likely to be Heskey and Owen - so one hopes that Ledley King will be fit to partner Anthony Gardner. (Ed's note - Sadly, Ledley has not made it to the squad) Much as Chris Perry has had a good season for us, he could easily be caught out, I fear.
Of course, I would love to see a win on Saturday (don't forget - kick off at 12 noon for the Sky cameras), but I fear that the visitors will win by the odd goal in an all-action game.
