Spurs travel to St. Andrews, Birmingham, for the first time in league action since the 1985-6 season, when we won 2-1 with goals from Gary Stevens and Chris Waddle. A certain David Seaman was in goal for the Blues on that day. Birmingham were relegated that season, having been a "yo-yo" side for several years before that. They have even visited the old Third Division between 1989 and 1992, so promotion to the Premiership has been VERY welcome to the passionate Brummie fans. As Brian reports in his preview, the 3-0 win over near rivals Aston Villa was no doubt the highlight of the season so far.
We did of course play at St. Andrews in a friendly a couple of years ago, which we won 1-0, with a goal by Steffen Iversen. The game had little excitement, and not too many locals bothered to turn up. As a matter of interest, David Ginola was an unused substitute, and within days was signed by Aston Villa, having effectively been rejected by "The Predecessor"
Notoriously, our most recent meeting was an embarassing home defeat in the League Cup (Read the report if you must!), but the teams will be radically different tomorrow.
How then, can there be an "agenda" between these two teams who have not met in League rivalry for over 16 years? Simply because of the presence of one Robbie Savage, the man all Spurs fans love to hate, and who will geta rousing reception of different flavours from either end of the ground. Our own Simon Davies loves the guy, as they play together for Wales, but Simon will be missing tomorrow, due to his one match suspension, so the Spurs 11 will no doubt let Mr Savage know they are around!
I imagine that Spurs will have the same starting line-up as they did against Leeds, with perhaps the grittier Redknapp coming in for Anderton in the middle. I'll go for another 2-0 win for Spurs
