Everton have had more problems in recent years, having flirted with relgation too often, but both these clubs are in similar positions. Since David Moyes replaced Walter Smith towards the end of last season (having guided Preston to a challenging position in the Nationwide Division One), it can be said that both The Toffees and The Spurs are clubs with glorious pasts, bright young managers, and that they are trying to rebuild on something of a shoestring budget. Everton have no money because they are committed to a new stadium, whilst Spurs - just have no money! (Despite the rumours of trying to sign Rivaldo or Morientes).
David Moyes has signed Richard Wright from our rivals down the Seven Sisters Road, and we can only hope to see him repeat his error made against Gus Poyet in the last minutes of the home game against Arsenal last season. Sadly, Gus will not be available for us, but it seems the scares that he would be out for eight months are just that, and he may be fit in November, after all. Personally, I feel his absence may be a blessing in disguise. Hoddle will always pick him, as he was one of "his signings", but Gus lacks mobility and defensive quality, despite scoring 10 goals in the league last term. I fancy new signing Milenko Acimovic to impress this Saturday and throughout the season.
Spurs will also be missing Darren Anderton, Ledley King, Christian Ziege, Stephen Clemence, and Les Ferdinand (who has often scored in this fixture), but I still fancy us to maintain our excellent record at Goodison Park in the Premiership and come away with 3 points. Duncan Ferguson will again be absent - injured, but maybe young star Wayne Rooney will feature for Everton, who will provide energetic opposition in front of a passionate crowd, desperate to get back to a position where they can be the equals of their rivals across Stanley Park.
I'll go for a 2-1 to Spurs, with goals for Iversen and Sheringham. Spurs Odyssey will be there, but my report may be delayed over the week-end, due to celebrations of my (AHEM) half-century!
