When Spurs last met Villa, at White Hart Lane, it was in front of the Sky cameras on a Sunday afternoon. Spurs started that game in 16th place, and Villa were 1 point and 2 places below us, with just 11 points. How the season has turned for David O'Leary's men, who moved above us after the games played on 20th December, when they won at Blackburn, and we lost at home to Manchester United.
Since being tipped out of the Cup competitions, The "Villans" have hardly looked back, losing just 4 of the last 18 league games, and now contend for that prized 4th place in the league and the possibility of Champions League football next season. Spurs have managed just 6 Premiership victories in their last 18 games.
Spurs though, will travel in good spirits, and we do have a good recent record, having won our last three games against this opposition, including the corresponding fixture last
year. That was Spurs first Premiership victory at Villa Park, and came thanks to a goal from Teddy Sheringham.
Form is very much against Spurs though, as Villa have not lost in their last 6, whilst the Lilywhites have failed to win even one game. Villa's recent vcitims include Chelsea and Middlesbrough, both sides who were in good form prior to the defeats.
Hopefully, Spurs can pick up the momentum where they left off last Sunday. There has been a story doubting Ledley King's fitness for the summer, but he was the Spurs (((on!))) man of the match last week, so I see no reason why he should not play beside Anthony Gardner again on Sunday. Whilst he is fit for action, Dean Richards (pictured above) should have to settle for the bench.
I have to let my head rule my heart for this one, and I'll predict 2-1 to Villa, in the hope that Leeds fail to win at Bolton on the same day, and we can all relax for the last two games of the season.
