Spurs have yet to win a home Premiership game against Charlton, and this
Sunday will be a great time to start to exert our authority upon a team that
has usurped us in the table, and seeks to do the same as far as the size of
their stadium goes. Ex-Spur Chris Perry is another transferee who has taken
the opportunity to have a snipe at the once-mighty Spurs, as he has been
quoted as saying we live on our past glories alone. Thanks Chris! You might
have had such a good welcome too, as you weren't such a bad lad.
It does of course irk us that Perry has been signed permanently by Charlton
(for a nominal £100,000), whilst we have yet to make a move on Konchesky,
AND we have to do without him now that Alan Curbishley has recalled him from his loan to Spurs. Wouldn't it be ironic if he scored against us?
Stephen Carr will have to sit this one out due to suspension, and team
selection will be difficult, with full backs a bit hard to come by at The
Lane.
Last year's game looked like being such a disappointment until unlikely
heroes, Les Ferdinand and Steffen Iversen joined the fray. Ferdinand was
inspirational, and Iversen got an 87th minute equaliser after we had been 2
down against the visitors.
After the events of this Boxing Day, it is difficult to feel optimistic about the result of this match. Charlton had a great win against Chelsea, taking most of their chances, whilst we let ourselves down at Portsmouth. The Spurs battle to survive in the Premiership MUST start with this match, but I have to predict a Charlton victory - by 2 goals to 1.
