I bumped into a Chelsea-supporting acquaintance this week, and he suggested I might be happy for Spurs to surrender the points to Chelsea, so that they might get closer to our traditional enemies, 7 points ahead of them in the league. NO WAY! I hate Chelsea almost as much as Arsenal. They haven't earnt any of the potential success they have this season. It's all been paid for! Just to think they were within days of being in a Leeds type situation. Wouldn't that have been nice? And anyway, they haven't won anything yet, although they are virtually assured Champions League football again next season. On balance, I suppose I must own up to hoping they can beat the gooners next Tuesday, but I'll be supporting Real Madrid come Champions' League semi-final day!
Let's not talk about the hoodoo, which most readers will know of by heart.
The Spurs treatment room has returned to traditional proportions as we have no less than 10 players on the doubtful list. Spurs are top of the Premiership injury list which can be found here. Those doubts come in varying degrees, with Dean Richards VERY doubtful for Saturday, and Darren Anderton and Simon Davies definitely out till after the Everton game.
Taricco, Ziege and King are described as "doubtful" for Saturday, and there is also a slight doubt about Fredi Kanoute. Gary Doherty has yet to be assessed after his International injury last night, whilst Stephen Carr will probably make the start.
To be honest, I don't fancy our chances this week, despite the fact that Ranieri will probably field a side that protects most of his first choice players for that Arsenal clash. However, his second-choice team could beat us anyway, and whoever wears the all-blue strip will be helped by the Spurs injury list.
David Pleat has been extolling the virtues of Youth after the International fixtures, and Jermain Defoe and Robbie Keane certainly covered themselves with glory, whilst Gardner and Doherty did well. Younger players, such as Phil Ifil and Jamie O'Hara also got a mention from Mr. Pleat, and the management of Tottenham has clearly defined a youhtful path forward for the club.
Stephen Kelly did well enough last week to fill any defensive position, whilst Jamie Redknapp will probably make a welcome start in the middle. I'll be optimistic and say that Spurs will field a team able to share the spoils with the visitors, although with odds as high as 3/1 for the home side to win, clearly the bookies fancy an away win very strongly.
