I'll say at the outset that I really fancy Spurs to win this game and put
some distance between us and the relegation zone. Leeds have won just 2 of
their home games (against Blackburn and Fulham), and whilst they have lost
their last two league games, there has been a mini-resurgence of form under
the stewardship of Eddie Gray.
However, one of their top scorers (Alan Smith) will be missing due to his
two match suspension for "returning a bottle" to the crowd before Christmas.
David Batty will also be absent. The other top scorer is Mark Viduka, who
will no doubt come in for the usual stick from Spurs fans. Although he and
Smith have scored just 5 goals apiece,Viduka is still a quality player who will
have to be watched as closely as ever, by whoever is on duty in the Spurs
defence.
Robbie Keane has a great habit of scoring against former teams, and his
record against Leeds since joining us is good, having scored in both the
games of last season. Keano was forced to miss this season's home game,
after that early injury on International duty. He'll be up for it tomorrow,
and I expect him to score.
Spurs away record against Leeds is not good, although it is two and a half
years since we lost a game to them. Our last away win though was in May '96,
when we won 3-1.
Mauricio Taricco and Anthony Gardner return to the squad for tomorrow's game, but there is an argument for not changing a winning team, and those in white on Wednesday night did well, especially the central pairing of Gary Doherty and Ledley King.
Spurs won the home match in August with quality goals from Taricco and Kanoute, after going one dwon to an early Alan Smith goal. The corresponding game last year ended 2-2, when Teddy Sheringham and Robbie Keane scored for Spurs. The referee on that day was Rob Styles, who gave Leeds a penalty from which they equalised in the second half, but refused a legitimate appeal by Simon Davies in the closing stages. Referee tomorrow will be Mark Halsey.
I am predicting a 2-0 scoreline to Spurs. If Dalmat is on fire as much as he has been in the last two games, it could be more!
