As can be seen, Spurs have played Portsmouth on relatively few occasions, bearing in mind the history and tradition of both clubs. Pompey topped the Nationwide last season, convincingly, and started their first Premiership season so well, with 5 games unbeaten and 9 points. It follows that they have only managed 7 points from a further 12 games, and unsurprisingly have dropped into the bottom three, displaying true relegation form. Last Sunday's 3-0 defeat at Southampton put Harry Redknapp in a foul mood, stating that it was going to be a "s**t Christmas" for him, his team and his wife! We must hope that Spurs do not bear the backlash of Redknapp's ire upon his team.
Spurs too are in poor form, results-wise, although they have shown against each of the top three teams in the league that they CAN compete, IF they apply themselves fully to their task, and do not get down-hearted too easily. We have lost 5 of our last 7 league games, beating only Aston Villa and Wolves at home. Anderton is a doubt for Boxing Day, and I suppose Poyet will get the nod to start in the middle next to Ledley King. Will it be Ricketts or Dalmat, or perhaps both could start this game. David Pleat has to prepare for forced adjustments for Sunday's game against Charlton, as skipper Stephen Carr will be suspended after getting his fifth booking at Newcastle, and Konchesky will not be allowed to play against his own side.
Spurs old boys, Teddy Sheringham and Tim Sherwood will feature for Portsmouth of course. Teddy has lost his scoring form of late, after a good start, and according to the radio commentary I heard on Sunday, Sherwood is still haranguing everyone but himself when things are not going right. That'll be most of the time, then!
If, like me, you are going to Fratton Park, don't forget your warm clothing and waterproofs, as despite a price of £29 per ticket, away fans are treated like second-class citizens, put out in the open air with no cover and not even free plastic macs!
I'm putting my trust in Spurs to play like they did in the last half-hour against Man Utd, and to come away with all three points, with a 3-1 win. If we don't win, we'll be down amongst the dead men for Christmas.
In wishing you all a very happy Christmas, may I point out that reports, and previews may be delayed over the festive period, due to the webmaster's social activities! Happy Christmas everyone! May we be smiling throughout!
