Whilst Spurs are near the bottom of the form table, with one win and five losses in their last 6 games, our hated rivals come to us suffering what for them is a considerable dip in their form. The "49ers" have failed to win in their last three league games, losing in another bitter contest at Old Trafford, and clawing a point off Southampton in injury time at Higbury, before their draw against rejuventated Crystal Palace. You have to go back to the end of last season to find the last such run for the Gooners, and that was three draws that started with their 2-2 here at The Lane, when Lehman conceded that dramatic late penalty, put away in a moment of high drama by Robbie Keane.
Whilst Arsenal do have a superior record against us in the Premiership, the gap is not that much, and historically the crowd and the team lift their game. At home we do have the upper hand, but we have not won at The Lane since 1999, which is actually the last time we beat them. We need to record our first 21st Century victory this week folks!
The man whose name cannot be mentioned is likely to miss this week's game, kicking off at 12 noon before SKY's cameras. They say Vieira is losing form, but let's face it, there is so much quality everywhere on the field and even their kids are winning against almost full strength Premiership sides in the Carling Cup. Incidentally, it's quite amazing to think that over the years we have only played a total of 12 Cup games against Arsenal, and I fancy there will be another contest this season - maybe at Cardiff in the League Cup competition!
No doubt the big screen build up will be a bit special, featuring that Ziege goal and St. Gazza's day. It's good to hear that Erik Edman will be fit, and Anthony Gardner also came through this week's reserve run-out. The Spurs team and their new Head Coach have had an educational week, to remind them of the needs of the Spurs fans and the demand for a result this week. After all, we very much need the points to end our dismal run, and we do not want a fifth consecutive league defeat, that would mean a dive back in the record books to check on Spurs worst ever league run of defeats.
So, you Spurs fans and players alike.........when you see the red horde coming over the rise at Manor House and down the Seven Sisters Road tomorrow, look them in the eye, and let them know you are not afraid, that you can match their passion. Show them fire, and give them hell!
COME ON YOU SPURS!
