It is only two years (almost to the day) since Spurs went to Turf Moor and lost 2-1 in the Third Round of that year's competition. Robbie Blake (formerly of Bradford City) scored one of the home goals that night, and he's still scoring plenty this year, having 8 in total, 5 of which have been in the League. Burnley lie 16th in the Championship table, and their best result so far has no doubt been their 3-1 victory over fancied Aston Villa two weeks ago, whilst Spurs were beating Bolton. Blake didn't score that night, but Graham Branch did, and he was also one of the conquerors of Spurs two years ago.

Burnley also eliminated Wolves in the 2nd round, but needed penalties to win that tie.Spurs face their third consecutive away League Cup tie in the North-West, and I sincerely hope this one does not need extra time, as I have a long haul home!

You only have to read Brian Judson's preview of two years ago to be reminded of the great old battles we had with the Burnley side of the late fifties and early sixties, before their sad demise. I remember in the late sixties (when Harry Potss was the manager) that Burnley became reknowned for being a nursery for many famous players. One of their famous sons was Ralph Coates, who came to Spurs and apparently became Darkie Nicholson's favourite player (but not that of many Spurs fans).

Since Ralph Coates' day, a number of players have played for both clubs, although all have played for Burnley after leaving Spurs. These were Mark Kendall, Mitchell Thomas (now an England Youth representative often to be seen round the grounds watching up and coming players), Phil Gray, Gazza, Paul Stewart, Chris Waddle and Paul Mahorn!

Clearly, Spurs must not under-estimate the opposition, but we must hope for an inspired performance on the lines of the last half-hour against Charlton. I don't envisage the team differing much from the one that finished last Saturday. A convincing win is very much required before the big Derby game this Saturday.

The Spurs Odyssey report is likely to be delayed until Wednesday evening.
