The battle lines have been drawn, and now we welcome our visitors from Cardiff to North London, where Spurs ought to finish off the job of despatching our Championship opponents comfortably.
Unfortunately, not all the talk will be of football, as a high security plan will be brought into action. I understand that most, if not all Cardiff fans have to collect their match tickets from South Mymms service station on the way to the game. No doubt there is a ploy there to prevent them getting to Tottenham too early, and to cause trouble. Not all the travelling fans will be hooligans of course, and I hope that those genuinely interested in the game of football see an entertaining game. I have also heard rumours of arrests today of visiting trouble-makers trying to conceal weapons in readiness for a street fight, so would urge all those attending to be very careful. I am sure the police will be out in force and that we will be grateful for their presence too. I certainly was thankful at Cardiff.
I suspect though, that there will be some uncompromising stuff on the pitch too, although, in fairness, referee Howard Webb did not have to book anyone in the first match. Mike Riley takes charge of the return. Gone are the days when the same referee took charge of a complete FA Cup tie - home and away. Cardiff have continued their poor league form, losing at home on Saturday to bottom of the League side Southend. The winners of this replay will of course be facing Southend, after their away victory at Barnsley in the replay played on Tuesday night.
Since I last wrote about Dave Jones' squad, Alan Wright had to return to Sheffield United as his loan ended, but Cardiff have already signed Aston Villa's midfielder - Peter Whittingham for £350,000. I suspect though that Whittingham signed too late to take part in this game.
Spurs fans did not realise there was a gooner in the Cardiff ranks last time out. Full back Kerrea Gilbert might be acknowledged in the replay in the traditional style. Cardiff have signed another London youngster on loan, and that is Chelsea midfielder James Simmonds - who has been added to the Cardiff squad. Whilst veteran Kevin Campbell played in Saturday's game, Thompson will probably be recalled for this game, and Spurs can expect a full-blooded effort from the visitors with everything to gain and nothing to lose.
Martin Jol has no new team fears, but Ledley King, Jermaine Jenas, Paul Stalteri, and Mido remain unavailable. Hence the team will not be radically different from those who started so well on Sunday against Newcastle, who, if they can replicate that form, should dispose of The Bluebirds quite comfortably. I'll go for 2-0.
