Spurs to sign Chris Gunter?
Spurs Odyssey understands that today Spurs will effectively secure the signing of another Welsh International teenage full back prodigy. Chris Gunter is another left back, who already has three full caps to his name.
Gunter plays for Cardiff at present, but will be at Spurs Lodge today (Friday 21st December) for his medical, after which a transfer deal which could be worth as much as £4 million to Cardiff City will be sceured.
Spurs of course are in dire need of defensive re-inforcements with Gareth Bale rumoured to be out for the rest of the season, and Benoit Assou-Ekotto also out for the season. The money will help Cardiff a great deal as they are in financial difficulties.
Gunter is not a goal scorer like Bale, but obviously made a quick impression on the Wales management team, making his full debut in a friendly against New Zealand in May this year. he also played 90 minutes in Wales' Euro 2008 qualifiers in November against the Republic of Ireloand and Germany. Wales gained a creditable 0-0 in Germany.
Gunter made 9 full appearances and 6 as substitute in League matches in the 2006-7 season, and this season has made 11 full appearances with 2 as substitute. Gunter played no part in the two cup games against Spurs last January. I understand that Gunter's preference is at left back, but that he can also play on the right.
If the signing does go ahead, Gunter would of course not be available before the opening of the transfer window in January.
