I am grateful to Paul Yarden for some of the statistics referred to in this preview

Ledley King was back to his best in the first leg, and will be needed in the home leg! It's the biggest game of the season to date for Spurs, and unlike last year, this time Spurs have home advantage for the second leg of the Carling Cup semi-final! Let's hope we can keep our two-goal lead this time, assuming we can manage the first part of the process, and actually get a lead! Mind you, a clean sheet would be enough at the end of extra time, as Spurs do have an away goal to their credit.

Despite two consecutive clean sheets, against Reading and Sunderland, no-one would back us to get a third would they? Ledley King has (we believe) been rested for the last two games, and should therefore be present and correct to face the gooners. Trouble is that Van Persie is out for three weeks, and Adebayor has been pleading for a chance to play. Mr Wenger may be inclined to include one or two of his first team squad in the side for this game. Bearing in mind the fact that centre back Djourou is also out, there may be room for a first choice defender. In fact we hear that Gallas will not only play but will Captain the side, and that Gilberto Silva may play at the back beside Gallas.

Under the constraints of injury, suspensions and Zokora's absence in Africa, Juande Ramos has made the very best use of his squad, and will field the best available 11 men tomorrow night. Wenger's choice will remain mystery to the extent that he has relied upon the "League Cup Team" to date, but may feel the need to re-inforce it tomorrow. After all, Spurs deserved to win the first leg, and deserved something from the League game before Christmas.

Cerny is likely to keep his place now, and the best available back four will be Chimbonda, Dawson, King and Lee. Steed Malbranque will return, and at least Ramos does have options for his midfield, with Jenas, Boateng, Huddlestone and O'Hara in the running for the central positions.

The front two will be Berbatov and Keane, but did you know that of the current squad, Jermain Defoe is Spurs' top scorer in League Cup ties, with 10 goals to his credit. However, this season, Jermain has only scored one (against Man City). Robbie Keane is his nearest rival of the current team with 6 League Cup goals for Spurs. Berbatov hasn't scored once yet this season in this competition, and there have been seven different scorers of Spurs goals in the competition so far this season. 6 of those players will be in the team, with Gareth Bale being the only absent scorer.

This will be the fourth semi-final meeting between Spurs and Arsenal in the League Cup. I well remember the pain of being on the terraces in December, 1968, when having lost the first leg 1-0, John Radford scored to put Arsenal into the final, despite Jimmy Greaves' goal. Spurs have yet to succeed against our nemesis in any League Cup semi-final, so let's hope that tomorrow sees a first. I fear it will be very close though, but I will predict Spurs to win by one goal after extra time.

· Did you know? .... that Spurs have played against Arsenal (11 times including this game) more than against any other opponent in this competition. Next come Middlesbrough and West Ham (7 games)

· Did you also know?......that Martin Chivers is our top scorer in League Cup games with 23 goals, 10 ahead of his nearest rivals, Clive Allen and Teddy Sheringham. Both Chivers and Sheringham are members of the "100 goal club" that Robbie Keane joined with his goal against Sunderland on Saturday.
