The official crest of Getafe Club de Futbol The team in 18th place in the Premier League meets the team in the same place (and also in the relegation zone) in the Primera Division in Spain! One difference in the situation of both teams is that the Spanish side has played just 8 league games so far.

Getafe qualified for this year's UEFA Cup on the back of their Spanish Cup Final defeat (0-1) to Sevilla, who Spurs know all too well, of course. On the way to that final Getafe beat Barcelona over two legs, losing 5-2 at Barca, but winning their home tie 4-0. Barcelona must have had other matters on their mind at the time, such as the League title race, and of course they already knew they were in the Champions' League. Getafe finished mid-table last season.

Getafe is situated within the suburbs of Madrid. Their manager is former Danish International and star of Italian and Spanish football - Michael Laudrup, in his first season with this club, having previously managed his first club in Denmark - Brondby. Recent stories in our press have also divulged that an ex-gooner John Jensen is on the Getafe coaching staff.

Getafe is a young club, having been founded in 1946, and first entered La Liga in the 2004-05 season. They are rookies in European competition, and have reached this stage after knocking out FC Twente thanks to away goals in the first round, winning 1-0 at home and losing 3-2 in the away leg.

That 1-0 win over Twente is one of only two wins of the season so far. The second was a league win over Real Murcia last Sunday, when one of their scorers was 23 year old Kepa Blanco, who was on Sevilla's books until last season, and was a loan player at West Ham. Kepa made a substitute appearance in our magnificent 4-3 win at Upton Park in March, so knows a little bit about us!

The Getafe squad is predominantly Spanish, with a few Argentineans on board. They have a Nigerian striker Ikechukwu Uche, who scored their goal in the 1-0 over Twente, but has not scored another goal this season in 9 appearances for his team.

Goalkeeper Roberto Abbondanzieri has 41 International caps, and is their current number one, winning his caps over the last three years.

On the face of it, Spurs should be hot favourites to win this game, but morale cannot be good against the back-drop of the bottom three, and a formidable game to come on Sunday against Blackburn.

Gareth Bale will be out for about 10 days after his foot injury on Monday night, and Young-Pyo Lee is described as doubtful with a shoulder injury. With Assou-Ekotto definitely out, that leaves a vacancy at left back, and one must assume that Paul Stalteri will step in if necessary. Ledley King hopes to return to full training next week. Rocha and Paul Robinson are also going to miss this game. Spurs have recalled Ben Alnwick from his loan at Luton, so he will be on the bench. Tommy Forecast, who was on the bench at Newcastle is not registered for the UEFA Cup.

No doubt Michael Laudrup would be pleased with a point from this game, and his tactics will reflect that objective. Let's hope that Spurs can produce a dazzling performance, take the game by the throat and set their UEFA Cup League programme off to a good start whilst boosting confidence for Sunday's game.

I'll go for a 4-1 to Spurs!
