With two months of the season remaining, this is Spurs most crucial game. It was good fun and very encouraging to see the 4-0 win at home to West Ham on Sunday, which must have put the players in good spirits for their trip to Holland.
It is highly encouraging to know that despite being stretchered off in last week's game, Jermaine Jenas has not only travelled but trained with the squad today, as has Jonathan Woodgate, who did suffer a foot injury in the West Ham game. Ledley King is also with the squad, so with Michael Dawson coming through the Hammers game in one piece, Juande Ramos has enough options to select his defence. Kaboul and Rocha did not travel, and Alan Hutton has to wait till Sunday's trip to Eastlands for his next game.
We all know that an early goal for Spurs would change the complexion of this tie completely. Despite the well-organised PSV performance last week, the fact is their goal did only arise due to an error by Gilberto (who will hope to have the chance to make amends), and if only Spurs can raise their game, there is no reason why they cannot get a result sufficient to take them through to the quarter-finals.
Elimination would be somewhat soul-destroying, especially with our next game at the venue for the UEFA Cup Final in Manchester.
PSV have a bit of an advantage, having been given a week-end off due to the Police strike - an event that could never happen in this country.
Juande Ramos was able to give key players Keane and Malbranque some degree of rest by substituting them on Sunday.
I have to go with my heart and say that Spurs will get that early goal, and go on to win 2-1, going through on away goals!
