Spurs sell seventh Carling Cup medal winner
This afternoon's confirmation that Younes Kaboul has signed for Portsmouth means that this summer Spurs have sold (or transferred out) no less than 7 of our 16 Carling Cup medal winners who played a part in the 2-1 win over Chelsea!
The list goes like this:-
1. Paul Robinson - sold to Blackburn.
2. Pascal Chimbonda - to Sunderland
3. Steed Malbranque - to Sunderland.
4. Teemu Tainio (who replaced Malbranque in the Chelsea game) - also to Sunderland.
5. Robbie Keane - to Liverpool
6. Younes Kaboul (who replaced keane in extra-time) - sold to Portmouth
7. Radek Cerny - to Queens Park Rangers. Radek made his debut last Saturday in QPR's 2-1 win over Barnsley.
The high profile signings that have been made so far (Gomes, Dos Santos, Modric, Bentley) do not match the departures in numbers, but bearing in mind our exciting and successful pre-season, surely the squad has been enhanced?
Juande Ramos is moulding a side that will go forward in numbers, at pace and with a variety of penetrative passing moves. We look forward to the resolution of the Corluka signing; confirmation that Dimitar Berbatov will go nowhere this window, and perhaps a little more strength to reinforce a defence that seems to lack some depth, although Ramos has already demonstrated that players such as Zokora or Huddlestone can and will be used to back up the central defence and the full-backs when necessary.
