Who's on Lennon?
That's probably the question of the lips of one or two worried members of the Blackburn squad, as they have the unenviable task of trying to hold back the onslaught of Spurs' in-form winger. The answer is likely to be found in (twice) former Spur Pascal Chimbonda, who has been playing at left back in Rovers' recent games. Chimbonda and Lennon will know plenty about each other, and it will be an interesting battle to say the least. Chimbonda is going to need assistance, and that may come from our old favourite "Gobber" Diouf, who was substituted quite early in Tuesday's defeat at St. Andrews.
Lennon is not the only worry for the Blackburn defence of course, and they'll all need to be on their toes to deal with the advances of Niko Kranjcar. In theory, Kranjcar is our left-side midfielder, but he can and will turn up anywhere against you, Rovers! Spurs have plenty of other danger men though, with Jermain Defoe on top of his game this season and level top of the Premier League scorers' chart.
Spurs will arrive in the frozen north-west in good shape, after their morale-boosting and deserved midweek convincing win over Man City. However, despite their patchy form this season, Blackburn is always a tough place to go, as proven last season, when Spurs arrived in good heart at the back end of an unbeaten run which had finally put paid to any relegation fears. Spurs had even beaten Chelsea in that run, but they managed to give the game away in April. (See the Blackburn v Spurs April 2009 match report here)
Wilson Palacios had been Spurs' best player and was unfortunate to say the least to be sent off for a second yellow for a challenge from which he had actually withdrawn and which had been evaded by David Dunn. Robbie Keane had given us a first half lead, but with the loss of Palacios and some confusion in the Spurs defensive ranks, Rovers got two late goals through McCarthy and Ooijer.
Blackburn had a poor start to their season, with one point from three games, but two wins in the next three, against Wolves and Aston Villa put them in a healthier position. They have made it to the Carling Cup semi-final, and face Villa in January, having eliminated Chelsea in the quarter-final on penalties after a 3-3 draw. Apart from that game though, Rovers have been struggling for goals, with defender Ryan Nelsen scoring their only league goal in their last five games.
Brett Emerton limped off after 22 minutes of Blackburn's midweek defeat, and may be the only absentee from tomorrow's game through injury, with Dunn and Grella believed to be available after short absences with muscle strains. Spurs have no new injury fears, and there is surely no reason why they should change the team that won on Wednesday night, although I have no news about Ekotto who did limp off after that late tackle by Tevez.
Form suggests strongly that Spurs should win this one, and I might be putting the mockers on it, but I will go for a narrow Spurs win - say 2-1.
