Don't mention Lasagne-gate!

Spurs and Everton provide the footballing hors d'oeuvres for the Carling Cup Final tomorrow, but don't mention Lasagne-gate! Spurs closed their training ground yesterday due to 18 people being affected by a vomiting virus, which brings back bad memories of the last day of the 2005-06 season, when we surrendered the cherished fourth place in the most horrendous fashion, and of course to the most horrendous team at the wrong end of the Seven Sisters Road. Thankfully, if one can put it that way, only Vedran Corluka and Wilson Palacios are affected in the first team squad.

Once upon a time we used to love playing Everton, but the last time we beat them at White Hart Lane in the league was in October 2005 when goals by Mido and Jenas gave us a 2-0 victory. We have beaten them since, in league action, twice at Goodison Park, and in October this season we knocked Everton out of the Carling Cup with a 2-0 win in which David Bentley featured prominently, beating Hibbert almost at will.

Unfortunately, Bentley will not face Hibbert tomorrow, as Hibbert is on the Everton injury list with a groin strain. When we travelled to Goodison Park in December, Everton were decimated by 11 injuries, and indeed their poor start to the season can be explained to a degree by the absences of so many key players. Whilst "The Toffees" have key players such as Cahill and Fellaini out at present, they have nowehere near the number of injuries they had earlier in the season.

Everton are top of the current form table for the Premier League and their last two wins over Chelsea and Manchester United show the resurgence in our visitors that has led to them being syggested as outsiders for the fourth place slot. That is surely beyond them with an 8 point game between them and us, but of course David Moyes won't see it that way, especially if they do beat us again at The Lane, as they have in their last three league visits.

Everton have Mikel Arteta back in the groove, and Louis Saha has been in goal-scoring form this season, scoring both the Everton goals against Chelsea for whom John Terry was not in the best of form, no doubt affected by current affairs (pardon the pun!).

Now it is Spurs who are at the top of the injury list chart, with Cudicini, Woodgate, Lennon, Jenas and King the definite absentees, while we await the results of late fitness tests for Jermain Defoe and Peter Crouch, whilst we hope that both Corluka and Palacios will be fit to play. In the case of the strikers, I am sure that Pavlyuchenko and Gudjohnsen would do a good job for us, and whilst Benoit Assou-Ekotto might cover for Corluka again, Palacios would be a big miss in the middle, where Everton are likely to pile men to thwart Spurs.

Everton don't have the distraction of the Europa Cup any more, after their 3-0 defeat to Sporting Lisbon on Thursday, but qualification for next season's competition is within their sights and they'll be well up for our game.

Recent signing Landon Donovan has now played in 7 Premier League games and has been a big influence for Everton, and russian midfielder Diniyar Bilyaletdinov scored a cracker last week against United. There is plenty to consider for Spurs in this game, but I'll take home advantage to weigh in our favour.

We lost a two goal lead in the away fixture, and it would be remembered as just one of a number of missed opportunities to secure Champions League football, if we do fail to win this race. Let's make sure tomorrow's game is not listed as another failure! I predict a 2-1 to Spurs.

Last season's home game, which we lost 1-0 was refereed by Steve Bennett, who is in charge tomorrow. We have not seen Mr. Bennett in the middle at The Lane this season, but he refereed our 0-0 at Craven Cottage on Boxing Day.
