Fancy a score-draw, anyone?
Historically, Manchester City have been one of our favourite Premier League opponents, with only three wins to their credit in 24 meetings. Spurs have won nine of their last ten Premier League matches against City, and their last five home games by the same margin - 2-1.
The strength (on paper) of the opposition has of course changed dramatically this year with all those big money signings, but whilst City remain contenders with Spurs for a Champions League spot, that strength on paper has not been cemented with their results.
Both teams have had major disappointments in recent weeks. In Spurs' case two home defeats against Stoke and Wolves and draws at Villa Park and Goodison have frustrated fans to the hilt. That's 10 points that could have put us up there with Chelsea, but that is also a "what if" situation.
In City's case, they have only lost 1 League game so far, and that was the dramatic 4-3 at Old Trafford, where Craig Bellamy thought he had got the final equaliser, before Michael Owen scored his first home goal for his new team to make friends for life of their fans. Incidentally, Bellamy will miss tomorrow night's game after his sending off at the week-end (for two yellow cards).
City also rue lost points by drawing games against opposition they might have expected to beat, such as Wigan, Birmingham, Burnley, Hull and latterly Bolton. City midfielder Michael Johnson hasn't played since October and is out for another 7 months with his knee injury, whilst left back Wayne Bridge is out for 7 weeks with knee ligament damage. A pity really, because I would have fancied Aaron Lennon's chances against him.
For Spurs, Ledley King and Jonathan Woodgate are definitely out, along with Carlo Cudicini, whilst Jermaine Jenas will apparently have a late fitness test due to food poisoning. Allegedly, that is not the reason he was missing from the Spurs bench last Saturday, after a party last week, and a less than impressive training session which also led to Harry Redknapp leaving David Bentley out of the 18 on Saturday.
With players such as Gareth Barry, Stephen Ireland, Carlos Tevez, Robinho, Adebayor and Santa-Cruz at their disposal, there is no way that City will sit back, and a goal-filled, open and exciting game is surely in prospect for us all.
It really is anybody's guess regarding the likely result. Obviously I hope for a Spurs win, but I think the most likely result is a high-scoring draw. A winner would be right back in the reckoning for a top four place.
