Harry can pick any two from four strikers this week!

Our visit to The Stadium of Light last season was on FA Cup quarter-final day - Saturday 7th March. The game was the fourth in a sequence of 6 unbeaten games for us, and was followed by great wins at Villa Park, then at home to Chelsea. Robbie Keane grabbed an 89th minute equaliser after Kieran Richardson had given "The Black Cats" a 3rd minute lead.

8 months later to the day, on November 7th, Steve Bruce brought his team to The Lane with his team in 8th place, whilst Spurs were fifth at the time. It wasn't a great performance by Spurs, but we did run out 2-0 winners, with another goal by Robbie Keane, and a thunderbolt by Tom Huddlestone that rattled in off the underside of the bar, with substitute Sunderland keeper Marton Fulop a bewildered observer. Fulop had come on for Craig Gordon, who suffered a fracture to his arm. Gordon is playing again now.

Spurs keeper Heurelho Gomes was also in the headlines that day as he was penalised for an alleged foul on Darren Bent, but allowed to stay on by referee Kevin Friend, which enabled him to save Bent's spot kick.

Steve Bruce's side had a bright start to the season and won 6 of their first 11 games, before coming down to Tottenham. After our game, they beat Arsenal, but then failed to win a game in their next 14 matches, plummeting down the table. There had been talk about them looking like a top half side, but that bad run even took Sunderland down the edge of the relegation zone. A couple of good home wins and only 2 defeats in their last 10 games have left them 8 points clear of the drop zone. They are not mathematically safe yet, but they are looking comfortable.

Four consecutive home games didn't do Steve Bruce's side any harm, and after us, they have games against West Ham, Burnley, Hull and Wolves from which they ought to reap a few more points. Nothing is certain in this game of course, and a team featuring former Spurs players, backed by a sell-out crowd will be baying for victory.

Alan Hutton is on loan at Sunderland, and will be ineligible for this game. Those former Spurs players in the squad are Fulop, Steed Malbranque, Andy Reid, Darren Bent, and Frazier Campbell. Darren Bent is having a great season with Sunderland, and is third in the Premier League scorers' chart with 20 league goals to date. Those goals include 4 penalties and one assist from a beach ball against Liverpool in October! Darren has even been mooted for an inclusion in Fabio Capello's World Cup squad, and on a personal level has everything to play for.

Andy Reid hasn't played since 9th February and has nearly recovered from a hamstring injury. Ghana defender John Mensah also suffered a slight hamstring last week, but may also be available, so Sunderland could have a full strength squad. That didn't help them too much at Anfield where the jury is out on the issue of whether Liverpool were that good, or Sunderland were that bad , leading to the 3-0 defeat and a blistering first half by Liverpool.

For Spurs, Michael Dawson suffered a strain last week, but is expected to play, and Jermain Defoe has been back in training this week. Ledley King is approaching fitness on his terms too, but I would suggest will be held back. Aaron Lennon is still two weeks away from fitness.

Wilson Palacios will probably have to start on the bench again, as he needs not to be booked on or before the 11th April amnesty deadline, otherwise he will miss two games. We'll be needing him for those games against Arsenal and Chelsea! Kyle Walker filled Corluka's place efficiently last week, and Younes Kaboul could start next to Tom Huddlestone. With Bentley or Kranjcar on the right, Luka Modric could start on the left, where he has caused maximum concern to opponents up and down the country. That leaves Gareth Bale at left back, and Benoit Assou-Ekotto on the bench this week, I think. Harry has the luxury of picking any two from four strikers this week.

Stop Press:- The team news from Spurs is not good, but we can still start with Gomes; Walker, Kaboul, Bassong, Bale; Bentley, Kranjcar, Gudjohnsen, Modric; Pavlyuchenko/Defoe & Crouch, with Ekotto and perhaps Palacios among the subs. I am not panicking.

Spurs are on a roll, with five consecutive league wins under their belt. A sixth on Saturday would give be a new Premier League record for Spurs. It will be tough, but I think we will edge it by the odd goal in three, and I look forward to our seventh and eighth consecutive wins against Arsenal and Chelsea!
