Have Spurs found the missing link in Sandro?
The final "Spursometer" following this week's fantastic result at home to A.C. Milan has been updated and can be viewed here:-
http://www.spursodyssey.com/spursometer/090311.html
As can be seen, and unsurprisingly, Sandro was voted man of the match, with one of the highest individual scores recorded all season (9 out of 10). Gareth Bale scored a remarkable 9.7 in the home match against Inter Milan. Sandro scored very highly too in the first leg of the A.C. Milan game in the San Siro with an 8.6 and was only just pipped by Heurelho Gomes, who made some crucial saves.
Once again, I thought it would be nice to report some of your comments following Wednesday night's game:-
On Sandro:-
"Sandro is becoming an important member of the team - he was superb last night."
"What a great performance by Sandro!"
"Sandro was out-of-this-world"
"The back four and Sandro were my men of the match, on a night when Spurs were forced to defend as they were dominated in the midfield."
"Sandro was fantastic. Best defensive midfield performance for Spurs in as long as I can remember."
"For one so young, (not been in England a year), Sandro was fantastic. The man we've been looking for, the missing link.. I truly think we have FOUR world class players in our squad; Van de man, Bale, Modders & yes Sandro, we have only glimpsed at his ability. Watch this space... He'll be as good as Roy Keane... "
"Sandro was the best player on the pitch."
"Sandro is emerging as a key player"
"The performance of Sandro for one so young was amazing, every player stepped up to the plate and did us proud."
"Ole! Ole! Ole! Ole!! SANDROOOOO! SANDROOOO!"
"Sandro was simply magnificent!!!"
"Sandro must have covered every blade of grass and tackled every AC player last night. Could develop into a great Spurs player!"
"One word SANDRO"
On Gallas:-
"Sandro was immense but Gallas just shades it for me because of that goal-line clearance"
"It pains me everytime I say this, but Gallas was rock solid"
On Crouch:-
"Good, hard working shift from Crouch. Could've put one away in the 46th or 47th minute though."
"Crouch was a hard working presence, forcing AC to maintain a rearguard and not flood forward completely on attack. In the first half AC looked like winners. "Zey dominate ze play" as our friend Arsene might observe."
"Crouch fought like a lion for us with no help from the referee. JJ slotted straight in really played his part."
Harry Redknapp scored an average of 7.7 for his team selection, tactics and use of substitutes, drawing the following comments:-
"Harry is the best manager we have had since Bill Nicholson."
"Harry and his staff got it spot on."
It wasn't all complimentary for Harry though:-
"Too late. (Substitutions) Needed changing inside the first 45mins. Over run in the midfield for the first 45mins"
"I give a 7 for selection, because I have no idea about the actual health of players and we got the result so I'll give 7. Tactics, think we got that wrong and think the subs - or at least one sub - could've come sooner"
"Maybe a bit surprised not to have used Defoe to run at them in the last quarter."
Finally, the referee and his team of officials scored a respectable 6.9, although one reader described him as "The anti-Crouch", and several comments were made about Crouch not getting a fair deal
There were a total of 273 contributions to the "Spursometer" this week. Always I am ever so grateful for this vital interaction with the Spurs Odyssey web site. I'll report more of your comments whenever the opportunity arises.
