Can Spurs work through their injury crisis?

Fc Twente from Enschede in Holland made it to the Champions League after beating Martin Jol's Ajax to the League Championship by one point last season. Their title went down to the last day of the season on 2nd May, when Ajax won 4-1 at N.E.C with two goals by the Uruguayan striker Suarez. However, Steve MClaren's Twente did not fail to hold onto their lead, as they beat N.A.C 2-0 with goals by the Costa Rican Ruiz and the Slovakian midfielder Miroslav Stoch, who is now playing with Fenerbahce in Turkey. Stoch who is still only 20 was on Chelsea's books for three seasons, and on loan at Twente.

The umbrella man, McClaren has moved on to Wolfsburg in Germany, and Twente have made a solid start to the season, being unbeaten in 7 league games (Won 3, Drawn 4)and three other games. Most significantly, one of those other games was their first Group A game against Group favurites and Champions League holders Inter, when they drew 2-2. All the goals came in the first half, with Dutchman Wesley Sneijder scoring first for Inter, before Twente dramatically took a 2-1 lead thanks to Janssen and an own goal by Milito. Eto'o levelled the scors just before the interval, and of course all 4 teams in the group are level on one point.

20 year old striker Luke De Jong is Twente's top scorer in their 7 league matches, but he hasn't scored since August, when he got two in consecutive games. Midfielder Theo Janssen got both goals in Saturday's draw against Ajax, and will be one to watch on Wednesday night. Austrian striker Marc Janko has come in this season from Salzburg, but he too hasn't scored for a month

Twente's 22 year old Bulgarian goalkeeper Nikolay Mihaylov must feel quite at home at the De Grolsch Veste stadium, where they also play "You'll never walk alone" before each game! It's a small world, isn't it? Mihaylov now has 10 full caps, and played against England, and is the clear number one choice of Belgium coach Michel Preud'Homme, who was fomerly in charge of Standard Liege and Gent.

Twente's colours are all red with a white trim, but they also have a blue and black strip as alternatives.

An injury crisis at Spurs Lodge has already led to problems against Arsenal last week, and at West Ham on Saturday. We certainly do not want it affecting Wednesday's result, as this is a game we really need to win if we want to succeed through this Group phase. We knew about Woodgate and Dawson. Now we hear that Kaboul and Gallas are out for at least two more weeks (maybe three), and that Ledley strained his groin on Friday. That seems to leave only Corluka and Bassong (who played at centre back on Saturday) available for this crucial game. Hopefully Ledley can put in 90 minutes for this one. Tom Huddlestone may be needed to cover at the back.

We need Ekotto back, so that Gareth Bale can be released to the attack, where he is most effective. Harry has a few options in midfield and up front, but suddenly our recent form does not suggest we are going to live up to our standards of last season. Having experienced Bremen and the home game against Young Boys, I personally am quite desperate for Spurs to qualify for this brand again. The only way we are going to do that is by improving our league form, so for us fans that must be the priority surely.

I am not confident of a win on Wednesday. The team as a whole certainly needs to pick up some pace and the determination to succeed. Let's just hope it's a good night at The Lane!
