Another chance of glorious victory!

There's no more time for Spurs and their fans to wallow in the glory of beating Arsenal at The Emirates last Saturday. A win in this game against Werder Bremen should be enough to secure our path to the knock-out stages of our first Champions League tournament, and tonight's game is where the focus needs to be!

Werder Bremen were our first opponents in this year's Champions League proper, and we gave a good account of ourselves with a 2-2 draw. Indeed, it could be argued that we should have done better as we did have a two goal lead, but were pegged back by the home side, who scored just before and just after the break.

Werder's form since that game has been quite abysmal, and at home they are being described as a club in some crisis, four points off the drop zone (12th in an 18 team league), and without a win in their last 6 games, having lost 5 of those. Werder have not even managed to score in their last 4 games, and have conceded 12 goals in those games. In all, they have won just three of their last fourteen games in all competitions. The Germans beat Hamburg and Freiburg at home, and their most impressive result was a 4-1 away win at Borussia Munchengladbach. Pizarro and Almeida (who scored one of Werder's goals against us) were the main scorers for the club before goals dried up, and although Marin is still fit, he does not seem to have been able to turn things round for them. Marin was the other scorer in our game, and arguably Werder's most impressive player.

Werder's last 4 results are as follows:-

Werder Bremen 0-2 FC Twente
Stuttgart 6-0 Werder Bremen
Werder Bremen 0-0 Eintracht Frankfurt
Schalke 4-0 Werder Bremen
In their last Champions League game, when they lost to Twente, skipper Frings was sent off and will be suspended for our game. Werder's injuury list includes the impressive Brazilian Wesley, who went off after an hour at Schalke; Austrian striker Arnautovic; and former Manchester United and Arsenal defender Mikael Silvestre.

Despite their recent form and problems though, there is no way that Werder Bremen should be dismissed. After all, they have absolutely nothing to lose in the tournament now, with only two points and no win to their name, but everything to gain. If (and okay it is a big if) they could beat us and Inter in their last game, then depending upon other results, they could still finish in the top two. So, they'll be going for it, and that man Marin will be to the fore.

Harry Redknapp tells us that Rafael van der Vaart is an injury doubt, and that he has had his concerns about a shoulder injury to Gareth Bale. Of the two, Bale is the more likely to play. Jermain Defoe will definitely play a part, and we are likely to see a 4-4-2 Spurs line-up, I feel. There are no other new injury worries, and Michael Dawson and Jonathan Woodgate's progress continues. Ledley King and Jamie O'Hara remain on the sidelines. Jamie has yet to feature for Spurs this season, whilst we haven't seen Ledley since the first half at Fulham over 5 weeks ago.

It's going to be another rip-roaring Champions League night at White Hart Lane. Let's make it a convincing win Spurs!
