Handsome tribute for Dean
Football fans around the country, and especially those from Bradford, Wolves, Southampton and Tottenham have been united in their shock and grief after the tragic death of Dean Richards last week. Dean's funeral was held yesterday (Friday 4th March) in his home town of Bradford, and many former colleagues and friends from the world of football attended to mourn Dean and support his family.
Dean's wife and two sons will be present at Molineux tomorrow, joined by representatives from all four of Dean's clubs when handsome tribute will be paid and all present will be united in the one minute applause.
Spurs Odyssey's tribute to Dean can be read here.
When the football starts, we can expect no quarter to be given by Mick McCarthy's side, which will be fired up and confident after their last two home performances, in which they beat league leaders Manchester United 2-1 and Blackpool 4-0. I am sure McCarthy will be seeking to make maximum pyschological advantage out of the fact that they beat the team that Spurs were beaten by in their last game. Mind you, Blackpool were without the suspended Charlie Adam and had DJ Campbell sent off last week.
Spurs have not convinced in any of their games against Wolves in their current Premier League spell. Last season, Wolves completed a league double over Spurs for the first time since the 1953-54 season. Even in this season's game at White Hart Lane, Wolves took the lead on the stroke of half-time, and Spurs only came through after a Van der Vaart penalty and two late goals by Roman Pavlyuchenko and Alan Hutton.
This match will be the 80th league meeting between the two sides, and Spurs will be looking for their 40th win and their 100th league point.
We know that Rafael van der Vaart and Gareth Bale will not be available for this game, and it looks as if Harry is saving both for next Wednesday's crucial Champions League game against AC Milan. We wait to see whether or not Alan Hutton has redeemed himself and will make a come-back in place of the injured Vedran Corluka. Hutton has been absent since the FA Cup defeat by Fulham, and rumour has it there was a falling out between Hutton and Harry. Maybe there has been some peace-making in the sunshine training session in Dubai.
Wolves will miss our player Jamie O'Hara who is on loan and has scored in the last two games, quickly becoming a favourite with the local fans. Jamie is a good footballer who deserves a regular game, and I wish him well whatever may lie ahead in his career.
The fact that our next three league games are against the current bottom three should not be taken as a sign that points will be easy to come by. We're at the business end of the season and each team is fighting for survival. Spurs will be up against plenty of endeavour and a hot home atmosphere, so as always an early goal would be a blessing to try and quell some of the pressure.
I'm hoping that Spurs have come back from their sojourn refreshed and raring to go forward in the quest for more Champions League football. I'll predict a 2-1 win!
