Our biggest night for years!
Tomorrow night at White Hart Lane will be the biggest night we have had for many, many years! Never mind the fact that we are 3-2 down after last week's Astroturf debacle in Bern, tommorrow night we will see Spurs go through to the group stage of the Champions League proper with a two or three goal win. I am sure of it!
We were told before the Stoke game that Defoe, Keane, Pavlyuchenko, Giovani and Modric were all doubtful. Well, now, apart from Luka Modric who will be missing with a groin inury, all of those players AND skipper Ledley King trained and will surely be available for selection for this vital game which could lead to some £20 million of riches. I am sure that Harry Redknapp and Spurs are so single-minded in their thinking about this game, and determined to win through to the Champions League Group stage draw.
Whether it was a gamble or not, the teaam selection on Saturday paid off, and Spurs have come through a tough two game start to the league season with 4 points in the bag, and Wigan to face on Saturday.
Stories have been told, and comparisons drawn with the European Cup Preliminary Round tie we played against Gornik Zabreze in September 1961, when we lost 4-2 away, but won dramatically 8-1 in the home leg to emphatically progress to the First Round proper, against a regular opponent for us - Feyenoord. You can expect tales to be told of that night by Cliff Jones, who scored a hat-trick in the 8-1 win, and Bobby Smith, who scored a brace. Spurs' task tomorrow is not really of the same proportions though, thanks to those vital two away goals by Sebastien Bassong and Roman Pavlyuchenko.
I understand that out Brazilian signing Sandro and our former gooner signing William Gallas will be presented before the game, and perhaps Gallas needs a bit more fitness training to be ready for first team action.
Young Boys played and won a home league game on Sunday against FC Zurich 1-0. Their scorer was Degen, who played so well in last week's first leg of this tie.
Hopefully then, we can expect to see Ledley King in tandem, probably with Dawson, and an otherwise unchanged back four. Lennon and Bale will be firing on all cylinders on the flanks, and I suspect Palacios will be partnering Huddlestone. I bet that leaves crouchie and Defoe (Harry's favourites) up front, with a strong bench in reserve for an onslaught on the Young Boys' gioal, supported by a vociferous crowd.
I'll even go so far as to predict a 3-1 to Spurs, and mucho joy on the night!
