Let's be having yer, Spurs!

Spurs and Norwich meet for the third time this season in a game where both teams will be desperate to gain three Premier league points, after embarrassing FA Cup defeats at the week-end. In the case of the home side, Norwich have the most ground to re-gain, having lost to non-league Luton on Saturday in front of their own fans. Spurs lost away to a team only one league beneath them, and their shame is negligible next to that of "The Canaries".

The bottom line will be which team wants it more, and my rallying cry to Spurs comes in the famous words of the inebriated Delia Smith - "Let's be having yer!"

One of our problems is that in the two previous meetings we have hardly been at our best. The league meeting was only our third game of the season, and our second at home. We failed to win and the knives were being sharpened for Andre Villas-Boas, who had yet to win over the majority of Spurs fans.

In that game, played on 1st September (Spurs 1 - Norwich 1), Mousa Dembele made his debut when he replaced Sandro at half-time and scored a fine goal to giver us the lead. Unfortunately, we let Snodgrass equalise with five minutes to go. Tom Huddlestone was also a substitute after 81 minites, and got sent off by referee Mark Halsey, but his card was rescinded on appeal. Huddlestone is hardly likely to start this game, with Dembele and Parker ahead of him in the pecking order.

A great bonus for Spurs is the early acquisition of Lewis Holtby from Schalke. Holtby was due to join us on a free in the summer, but has been signed for a fee, due to Sandro's injury. I had heard that Holtby would not be travelling until the week-end, but we have been informed that he is in the squad for this game. Holtby has of late been playing as an attacking midfielder. I would suggest he will not start this game, but I am sure we will see him in action, from the bench. Jermain Defoe is also in the Spurs squad, and we will clearly field a stronger side than that which played at Leeds.

Norwich will also no doubt field a stronger side than they did against Luton, and it is also likely to be stronger than the team which knocked us out of this season's League Cup. Gareth Bale, who played so well in last season's corresponding game, scored first when we met in the fourth round of the Capital One Cup at the end of October. We then conceded two late goals, and Clint Dempsey failed to score from the penalty spot two minutes from time, after walker had been brought down.

At that time, Dempsey was not "Mr. Popular" aongst many Spurs fans, but since then he has gained chalks, by scoring more goals than Jermain Defoe in recent games. Defoe has scored one goal since 6th December, whereas Dempsey has notched 6 in that time and now has eight goals to his name for Spurs, lying third behind Defoe and Bale. Dempsey scored home and away against Man Utd this season, and they were crucial goals in both games.

Despite that cup defeat at Elland Road, Spurs are in good league form, being unbeaten in their last 7 Premier League games. They have however only drawn the last two, and have as much need of all three points to maintain fourth place as do Norwich to regain some pride and halt their faltering status in the league.

It took a while for Chris Hughton's Norwich to win their first league game of the season, but what a win that was! They beat Arsenal 1-0 on 20th October. That was a result which started a run of 10 games unbeaten in all games for Norwich, only halted in December with a surprising 4-1 home defeat in the League Cup against Aston Villa, who have struggled in almost every game they've played since. Norwich have lost 5 of their last 6 league games.

Norwich's recent decline might in part be put down to the enforced absence of first choice keeper John Ruddy, who has been out since late November, and needs another 7 weeks to recover from a hip/thigh injury. Mark Bunn has been first choice since then, but not for the recent FA Cup games.

Spurs' loanee Harry Kane won't be allowed to play this game, and in truth he hasn't been getting too much game time anyway. I suspect one reason Michael Dawson was rested on Sunday was to enable him to be fresh to deal with the physically tough Norwich forward Grant Holt. I think we'll see Dawson and Vertomghen in the middle for us tomorrow night.

It's a big game for both sides then, and I think we are in for plenty of attacking and exciting football. Defeat for Norwich could see them being sucked into the relegation battle, with a tricky away game against QPR to come this week-end. Defeat for Spurs could see them losing their top four status, if Everton beat West Brom by a sufficient margine. Top four status is, after all, the only thing we have left to play for now.

I'll take Spurs to win 2-1. My match report and survey will be published on Thursday morning.

The referee for this game will be Neil Swarbrick, who we have only seen for our home win against Aston Villa in October.
