Let's have a cup tie to savour!

We are beginning to see too much of Burnley this season, with our third game against Sean Dyche's side since 20th December. Their resurgence in form continues, with a good 2-1 home win over relegation rivals QPR on Saturday. This took place in front of twice as many fans as the number who bothered to turn up at Turf Moor last Monday night. I wonder if the Burnley away support tomorrow will be as good as was the Spurs turn out in Lancashire.

Early in the season, Burnley had a barren spell with six matches without a goal following their opening day game where they did manage to score against Chelsea. Now they have scored in their last four games, averaging two per game over that period.

I think Spurs can look forward to another competitive game against a team that will want to maintain its form for vital upcoming games against Crystal Palace, Sunderland and West Brom. Yes, their league programme seems to be reflecting ours at present.

Spurs have only ever had one FA Cup replay against Burnley, and that occurred over 100 years ago! The tie was in the Third Round and took place on February 20th at White Hart Lane, where we drew 0-0, with the replay on February 24th at Turf Moor, where we lost 3-1.

Spurs were in their first season in the Football League (Division Two), whilst Burnley were old hands, having been founder members in 1888. Burnley were also in Division Two when we met in the Cup, and we did get the better of them both home and away in the League matches. We also gained promotion at the first attempt, whilst Burnley were left behind until 1913.

In those days, the FA Cup started in the first round even for the top teams, and Spurs had beaten Manchester City (4-3) and Fulham (1-0). Burnley had conquered Wolves and Crystal Palace (9-0 in a replay!). The Spurs goal at Turf Moor came from the penalty spot and was scored by right back Ernie Coquet, who was born on Tyneside on 6th January, 1883. Coquet had made his Spurs debut that season (against Wolves), and that goal for Spurs was his one and only career goal! Coquet made a total of 84 appearances for Spurs over the course of three seasons, before moving on to Fulham, after a brief spell at Port Vale.

Burnley fell victim to eventual winners Manchester United in the quarter-finals.

Burnley won the FA Cup for the only time in their history in 1914, beating Liverpool 1-0. In the year that Spurs won the FA Cup for the second time (1921), Burnley won the Football League for the first time, and would repeat that feat the year before we won the Double. These two teams were great rivals in those days, capped by the 1962 FA Cup Final, of course.

History is one thing, but winning tomorrow is the most important thing for Spurs. A win would give us another repeat of history, with a home tie against Leicester who we conquered in the Double season.

Mauricio Pochettino's team selection will be interesting, with the Sunderland game to come on Saturday. According to Physio Room information, Ryan Mason and Erik Lamela might be fit for Saturday, but we'll have to do without them tomorrow. No doubt there will be changes from the team that played Palace. Two or three of them might be in the back four, with Ben Davies and Vlad Chiriches likely to be involved. Eric Dier has been the subject of a little official site focus, so he could also figure in this game.

I don't expect much change in front of the back four. I think we will see a good game, and Burnley won't make it easy. I'll go for a 3-1 win for Spurs!

Tomorrow's match referee will be Craig Pawson, who was in charge for our away games at Sunderland and Hull this season.

· 10 years ago on 8th January, Spurs beat Brighton 2-1 at home in the FA Cup 3rd round.
