Can he do it? Poch the builder can!

When Man City came to White Hart Lane in September (Spurs 4 Man City 1), they were top of the league and six points above ninth placed Spurs. City had a flying start to the campaign, winning their first five games but started to look fallible after 2-1 home defeat by West Ham. We made them look even more fallible with that marvellous 4-1 defeat, but City were missing Vincent Kompany and David Silva.

Everyone has seen how susceptible the City defence can be without Kompany at the helm. Despite all the talent at their disposal, they always look a little more ordinary without Silva probing the attack. Both may be missing again on Sunday, although Kompany is close to match fitness. Jesus Navas is out with a hamstring. De Bruyne is out for at least 8 weeks with that nasty knee injury sustained in the recent League Cup semi-final win over Everton. Another defensive option Mangala is also absent. Bony is doubtful and Nasri is definitely out. There are even rumours that Aguero might be struggling for match fitness! It looks like as good a time as any to be playing the current incarnation of Manchester City.

Spurs had better make the most of this opportunity to snatch more points (and a four point margin) off City before the advent of the Guardiola era next season. The only injury problems they have are the ongoing Vertonghen and N'Jie absences. Kevin Wimmer is doing a perfectly solid job in place of Vertonghen.

The last time we approached a game against Man City in a higher league position was in November 2013, when Andre Villas-Boas was in charge. That game didn't end well, to say the least. The story was being written after only 14 seconds when Navas scored the first of City's six goals. Spurs conceded as many goals that day, as they had in 11 preceding Premier League games. Best not to dwell on that day!

A better game to re-visit which took place at The Etihad Stadium is that which Harry Redknapp's Spurs played in January 2012. (Man City 3 Spurs 2, 22.01.12). Spurs were in third place, five points behind top placed City after 21 games. That was probably the last time, before our current situation, that we were being touted as possible title contenders. That game was also televised on a Sunday afternoon. City were missing Kompany then (through suspension) and both the Toure brothers.

That game was goal-less at half-time, but City took a two goal lead through the hated Nasri, and Lescott. Spurs bounced back with a goal by Jermain Defoe and a 65th minute equaliser by Gareth Bale, whose shot hit the roof of the net after Lennon's cross. Spurs took control, and should have taken the lead through Defoe, who just failed to convert from close range at the back post. Spurs' pain was complete in added time when Balotelli converted a penalty conceded by Ledley King. Balotelli had escaped a red card earlier when he stamped on Scott Parker. We were never really in the race for the title again, but we did stay in the top four, finishing fourth. It was not enough though, because of Chelsea's Champions' League win.

The last time Spurs completed a "double" at The Etihad was famously in May 2010, when Peter Crouch scored surely his most important Tottenham goal, giving us that 1-0 win, fourth place, and our one and only entrance to The Champions League. ( Man City 0 Spurs 1, 05.05.10).

That game, nearly six years ago now, became the eighth and last time we completed a Premier League "double" over Man City. Such was our dominance over this team until the arrival of Sheikh Mansour. Now we seek potentially the best and most important of all those wins.

A win on Sunday afternoon, again in front of the Sky cameras would secure our second place, and firmly involve us in this year's title race. Can we do it? Like Bob the builder, Poch the builder can! City will be anxious not to lose a fourth home league game of the season. Liverpool and Leicester proved it could be done quite easily. Spurs will find it more difficult, I feel, but I am feeling quietly confident that we can take all three points. 2-1 to Spurs!

We used to fear match referee Mark Clattenburg, especially in Manchester, but in recent years we have done quite well when he has been in charge. Not least the last time, which was when we beat City 4-1 this season!

· Did you know?- Man City have yet to beat a team currently in the top six this season.

· Did you also know?- This Sunday is only the sixth time in Premier League history that the top four sides have met. I'm hoping for a draw in the 12noon game!
