Fourth from top meets fourth from bottom
Tonight's game at Carrow Road sees fourth from top Tottenham face Norwich, who are just one place (and two points) outside the relegation zone. Alex Neil has done his best to recruit in the January window, and the "Canaries" are clearly pulling out all the stops to try and ensure Premier League survival, with even bigger TV money coming next season.
Scottish International striker Steven Naismith (29) has been signed from Everton, and has already scored his first Norwich goal in his debut game against Liverpool. That game finished in crazy fashion with late goals at each end, with Liverpool winning 5-4. The game was played at lunchtime on Saturday 23rd January - the day we beat Crystal Palace 3-1, with that stupendous Dele Alli goal stealing the headlines.
Nacer Chadli also scored a great goal that day, and with four goals in his last three games, Chadli gives Pochettino a pleasant selection dilemma tonight.
After that win at Palace, Spurs will be seeking their second league double of the season, having comfortably beaten Norwich on Boxing Day at The Lane. (Spurs 3 Norwich 0 - 26.12.15)
Naismith is a threat, and needs to be watched carefully inside the box, where he will take every opportunity to go to ground in the right situation. Other January signings by Neil include Chelsea's Patrick Bamford on yet another loan from Chelsea. Bamford is still only 22, and he has had successful loan spells at MK Dons and (last season) at Middlesbrough, but he chose to return from his most recent loan at Palace where he felt he was not getting enough chances to shine.
Another Norwich signing is Portuguese right back Pinto, signed from Dinamo Zagreb. Another defender signing is 27 year old Timm Klose from Wolfsburg. Klose is a Swiss International and played against England (when Harry Kane scored) in a game which finished 2-0 to England in September.
Spurs will face a different Norwich team from that which we beat 3-0 in December when Harry Kane scored twice and Tom Carroll got our third goal. Whilst Norwich had a day off last week-end, while we played a strong team at Colchester, we could field a team including a back five in which four players are fully refreshed. They would be Lloris, Walker, Alderweireld and Rose, with Kevin Wimmer required to play again. Dele Alli will also return, having spent Saturday on the bench.
Spurs are playing their fourth consecutive away game and will be looking for a fourth consecutive win (three in the league). They still haven't been beaten away in the Premier League since Day One at Old Trafford.
Norwich have lost their last four games but they have won two games at home recently (against Villa and Southampton). The "Canaries" will also take heart from the fact that they did beat Spurs two years ago when Spurs last visited Carrow Road. (Norwich 1 Spurs 0 - 23.02.14)
It should be a good game, with a great atmosphere. Spurs will no doubt start at their usual high tempo, and might quieten that home crowd with an early goal. I'll go for another Spurs win, but it could be close - 2-1.
Referee Kevin Friend has taken charge of a Spurs game once before this season. That was our 2-0 away win against Southampton, which preceded our home win against Norwich.
