Premier League ‘200 club’ inductee: Harry Kane’s best goals in a Tottenham shirt

Our beloved captain, Harry Kane, celebrated a milestone on 5 February, becoming Tottenham’s all-time leading goalscorer and thus notching his 200th Premier League goal. With that in mind, here is a look back at Kane’s best goals in a Tottenham shirt.

Tottenham 5-3 Chelsea (1 January 2015)

This was the game that announced Kane on the Premier League stage. The Englishman got on the scoresheet twice, as goals from Danny Rose, Andros Townsend and Nacer Chadli cancelled out three Blues efforts to secure a memorable 5-3 victory. Not only was Kane’s performance a stellar one, but his two goals were of the highest order as well.

The strike that makes this list is actually his first, which saw Spurs’ then No.18 cut inside from the left flank and outmuscle the talented duo of Oscar and Cesc Fabregas. In a move that is now so familiar to us Tottenham faithful but was a novelty at the time, Kane dipped his head down and struck a beauty from 25 yards. A helpless Thibaut Courtois could do nothing about it as the scores drew level at 1-1 and White Hart Lane was sent into raptures.

Tottenham 2-2 Arsenal (5 March 2016)

Kane has racked up a mammoth 14 against Arsenal, but few have been sweeter than his strike in the 2015-2016 season. Sporting a plastic protective mask due to a facial injury, Kane picked up the ball from the corner flag in a seemingly harmless position before firing a vicious shot from the edge of the box past the flying David. The game finished 2-2 as Spurs’ form dipped away towards the end of the season, losing ground on eventual champions, Leicester.

We did manage to qualify for the Champions League that campaign, though, a feat which is looking less likely in 2022-23. Europe’s elite competition is the most prestigious in club football, with its popularity so high that the sport now features on various platforms. These include some video games and online mobile casinsos, with websites such as MrQ allowing users to deposit and withdraw money straight from their mobile. However, with 42 points from 13 games recorded by Antonio Conte’s side, the European places and the money that comes with it may elude Spurs this season.

Tottenham 5-0 Burnley (7 December 2019)

One campaign where he had to settle for Europa League football was 2019-20, although a dominant display against Burnley before the turn of 2020 was a definitive season highlight. Kane was, unsurprisingly, on the scoresheet twice, with Lucas Moura, Son Heung-Min and Moussa Sissoko capping off a dominant display against the Clarets at the recently opened Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

While Son rightly received the plaudits for his sumptuous solo strike – which was awarded the Premier League’s goal of the season that term – Kane’s long-range effort to get the ball rolling after just five minutes was no mean feat. The Englishman received the ball off his Korean striker partner and, finding himself in a pocket of space, let fly from 30 yards out. The result was a spectacular effort into the top corner past his England team-mate Nick Pope, setting the tone for a clinical afternoon for Jose Mourinho’s side.

At 29 years old and already fending off interest from potential suitors around Europe, there is sufficient evidence to suggest Kane will score many more in a Tottenham shirt.

With half an eye on Alan Shearer’s tally of 260 goals, the Spurs and England captain will aim to be back at the top of the club’s scoring charts in 2022-23 and help us secure that final European place.
